"Lorissa Chapa Defies Stereotypes"

It's been said that to make it in the music business the cosmos must be in perfect harmony and an assemblage of traits must be evident in the would-be pop star: talent and ambition, intelligence and humility, youth and maturity, good looks and accessibility, and perhaps most importantly, timing and dumb luck. If any one of these essential traits is missing, or the stars are out of whack, success can be elusive. That being said, a few anomalies will occasionally slip through the cracks and defy the gods of music--Vanilla Ice and Susan Boyle come to mind. Ice and Boyle aside, the traits mentioned may apply to 20-year old newcomer Lorissa Chapa, a Texas-born Mexican American singer/songwriter who first fell in love with Tejano Music (a Tex-Mex blend of styles) as a little girl, but who has chosen a decidedly non-Tejano style in which to express herself.

"Hot Rocker: The American Idol of the Coastal Bend"

Even Simon Cowell would be impressed. Recently Chapa won the Walt Disney World's American Idol Experience, which is a mock contest of the reality show held at the entertainment park.
"It was amazing because I had almost the entire crowd vote for me and nobody knew me, " Chapa said. But maybe our Coastal Bend Idol had a one up, because this isn't her first rodeo when it comes to performing. Chapa started her entertainment career as a child in the Broadway musical "Selena Forever." "Out of 1,000 girls I was one of them to get picked, there were 2 of us," Chapa said.
Chapa says she owes her inspiration and start of her musical pursuit to Selena. "I honestly wouldn't be singing if it wasn't for Selena," Chapa said. "My grandfather always had me singing Selena when I was very little."

"McRiprock's Lonestar Sixpack Project"

Lorissa Chapa-Selfish-You want indie pop. You got it. Chapa's debut album reeks of pop with a vocal range similar to Christina Aguilera and Reba McIntyre. She is comfortable in her ability to perform everything from Mariachi, as she is to rock, opera, or country. "I'll Be There" is a pure pop version of heartbreak where as "Move On" carries a more amped up style of pop. 3.5 McRiprock's. - www.Austindaze.com

"Chapa Introduces Second Album, Selfish Reflects On Creative Evolution"

Become familiar with the name Lorissa Chapa. She's a Del Mar College student who just released her second studio effort. Her first album, "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights," debuted in 2007. It was a rock country genre, but this CD is alternative pop, something totally new for the young artist.
Selfish, her recent album is said to be a reflection on her evolution as a performer. She wrote eight of the 10 songs on the CD.
She draws real-life experiences about love and relationships to craft her lyrics. The album itself discusses young love-the excitement, the happiness and the warmth. Her songs tell a story and take the listener on an adventure.
Her singing voice sounds something like Christina Aguilera. She has a good vocal delivery and range. Her tracks "I'll Be There" and "Move On" are some good examples.
Selfish is available at local music stores and on iTunes.
Chapa is signed to Wicker Records and was discovered at the age of 10 by Abraham Quintanilla, who cast her in the lead role in "Selena Forever" as the young Selena, emulating her sound, style, and passion for music through her voice. She has had an extensive career tht has lasted 10 years. Chapa also possesses some modeling talent.
She has come a long way from serenading her grandfather. - The Pine Log, The Independent Voice of Stephen F. Austin University
