Brandishing breakneck riffs that would make Bad Brains jealous, Lose Your Fear starts in overdrive and refuses to slow down. Gina T. is a forceful, compelling presence onstage. She is unrestrained: basically all of the qualities you want in a lead vocalist. Patti Smith was the first comparison that came to mind, but “a female Johnny Rotten” or “Debbie Harry on Red Bull” seems strangely more appropriate. Maybe I need to stop drawing parallels and just fucking dance. Which actually comes pretty easy when Lose Your Fear allows their funk sensibilities to inform their street punk ethos. Lead guitarist Anson Jackson picks and shreds with unwavering precision, acting as Gina’s partner in crime onstage. Melissa Simpson; lead vocals, songwriter, performance artist
Anson Jackson; lead guitarist, songwriter, producer
Lose Your Fear was spawned in the streets of Venice, California with the founding members, Melissa Simpson (AKA Gina Tailya) and Anson Jackson, who met in 2005 while attempting murder with a deadly weapon during an underground performance art showcase. That deadly weapon proved to be Gina T’s microphone and Anson’s psyhcofunk riffs.
Gina T metamorphosized out of the LA underground punk scene as a published poet, singer/songwriter and performance artist during her years as Executive Art Director with Hustler Magazine. She is also a well-established fashion designer. As owner of The Blank Studios, Gina/Melissa has designed fashions for prominent stars such as Prince, Slash, The Pointer Sisters and Pink, among others.
Anson Jackson’s career in Music has spanned over 25 years. His roots stem from the R&B scene in Chicago, Il as a teenager, backing national acts such as The Dramatics and The Chi-Lites. Anson is widely respected as a musician, songwriter and producer on the Greater Los Angeles local music scene.
Lose Your Fear has a substantial library of songs in a wide range of genres (Funk, R & B, Punk, Alternative Rock, Metal, Blues, etc.). They have worked with Grammy winning producers and established musicians from diverse bands such as P-Funk, Body Count, Megadeth and Berlin. After spending much of 2014-2016 in the studio, Lose Your Fear put together a touring band in 2017 (Larry Live, Bass, Chris Lambert, Drums), which is playing the Los Angeles Club scene and is ready to tour nationally.
Lose Your Fear combines an eclectic combination of style, attitude, and musical prowess, stimulating audiences through an emotional labyrinth of political and social perspective. LYF offers a two hour concert filled with visuals, performance art, comedy skits with dramatic dialogue.
