"Los Hispanos UK"

Los Hispanos UK
Borracho at 3 in the Morning
Ztv Records, May 2005

Here's another muy fabuloso prodution of Austin's Republic Studios(which, sad to say, is throwing in the towel, another casualty of our local economic slackerism). This one breaks away from the bulk of republic's ultra heavy output, giving us something to play while trying to get happy on our way to the beach for a blow-off day of boy and girl watching. Speaking of which, this record is as cute as the boys in the band (Mio, Orestes, Kali and Jeromy)- and that's cute enough to choke ya. Muchos guapos! my favorite track is "Dont Go Away" because of the catchy, nostalgic riff recalling Black Flag's "Jealous Again". Conceptually and vibe wise, the band reminds me of San Francisco's Panzy Division. Enough said. Look at the Club Review section for pix of their May 1st Cd release show, because all this literary wanking is taking too much time away from my boy/girl watching and beach balling.

"Boys and guitars"

Los Hispanos U.K. Wed 7/14/04

710 Room Austin, TX.

Boys and guitars, Two of my all time favorite things were in abundance Wednesday night at 710. I had the pleasure of seeing two of my buddies play with their new band, Los Hispanos-UK and I was really glad that Idid.
I immediately got the felling that Mio (guitar) and Orestes (guitar/vocals) both were just really excited to be on stage. I’ve heard rumors for months about how amazing either one or both of them are, and finally got to see for myself. When I was listening to them, I heard a lot of stuff that reminded me of Faster Pussycat and the LA Guns. You know the stuff that makes you want to throw your bra on stage and/or hang around outside the back door of the club hoping that you get lucky enough to get used and abused just for one night... The good old days! When I talked to the boys, they told me their influences ranged from Hanio Rocks, New York Dolls, Coal Train, Thin Lizzie and Motley Crue. Ah! The classics! Mio a guitar god in his own right, told me that while all his heroes are dead, he credits Paul Kossoff from Free as being the patron saint of guitar players. The energy of this band is great. It comes through in lots of rock stunts (playing guitars behind their heads, winking at the girls shaking their asses, and point at the crowd with their instruments). I’m a sucker for the guys who look right at you like they are playing just for you, and I along with everyone in attendance seemed to have fallen for it hook line and sinker.
I don’t know the other members of the band - Jeromy on drums and Kali on base - but they rounded out this group of bad asses just perfectly.
Cheers, guys! I had a fucking blast and am indeed a fan. Xoxoxox,
Corri Mava.
