"Elbo Room Review"

September 17, 2009 ) CHICAGO, IL

Face melting guitar, pumping and thumping rhythms, aggressive, and in-your-face vocals will greet those attending The Elbo Room on Thursday, September 24th. Led by the lithe and dark Jodi Kell on vocals, and supported by guitarist Scott Haith, bassist Petra Sith, and drummer Conor Mccann, this four-piece heavy-hitting rock band is beginning to hit the music scene with intensity.

Beginning their tour at The Elbo Room and supporting another great band from Indiana, “Philpot”, Losing Scarlet is kicking off a long list of shows with this performance. Soon following this show, Losing Scarlet is scheduled to play at The Corner Bad, Penny Road Pub, O’Malley’s, House Café…the list goes on.

Formed in late 2007, within three months Losing Scarlet had written and recorded a six song demo and performed three live shows. Taking it slow through 2008 to polish their music and live show, Losing Scarlet has become a well oiled machine ready to break into the scene with a series of killer performances.

The Elbo Room show begins at 8PM and fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the venue is expected to fill up fast.

"Penny Road Pub Review"

October 6, 2009

When it comes to the rock world, female fronted bands make up a small percentage of the popular acts. Very seldom do you find a female lead with enough power to capture the attention of male and female listeners and break into the “boys club”. The stereotype attached is mediocre pop vocal sound and tons of sex appeal. Yes, we all agree that sex sells but can’t there be a happy medium where beauty meets indisputable talent and rocking music.

Meet Losing Scarlet, an emerging Chicago-based female fronted rock band that has taken their local scene by storm with face melting guitar, thumping and growling rhythms, and aggressive vocals…step aside, boys.

Lead by sultry vocalist Jodi Kell, Losing Scarlet formed in late 2007, but Jodi isn’t the only female in this powerhouse. Petra Sith brings the thunder to the Losing Scarlet storm. The lineup then rounds out with Scott Haith on guitar and Conor McCann on drums.
“We consider our work to be Hard Rock or Metal,” says the band. With influences from Sevendust to NOFX and Rancid, it’s easy to hear the similarities in the music. In fact, some strong similarities with Lacuna Coil are present, sans the gruff male counter vocal, but Kell isn’t there just to look pretty. Check out any of the band’s live footage and you’ll experience Kell’s aggressive and demanding presence. She commands passion and sub servitude as she belts the lyrics to an energetic crowd.

“Our song themes or topics tend to be very dark, passionate, uplifting, inspiring, sometimes happy, and vengeful or wicked.” says the band.

“We all have a finger in the pie when it comes to the writing process. Usually it happens like this: Scott will come up with a riff and will jam it out with Conor for a while and they mold it to their liking. Then we bring it to Petra's attention and she put's her own spin on it. A few things will be changed or removed and it will really start to become a song. Then we all bring it to Jodi. She gets her inspiration from our music so she doesn't write lyrics till the song is "kinda" written. She nails it every time though. It's now the next Losing Scarlet song.”

Within three months of forming they had written and recorded a six-song demo and performed a few shows. Warm responses from crowds have steadily built up a loyal fan base for the band, and now Losing Scarlet’s fan base is as diverse as the music. With ages running from pre-teen to empty nester, the band draws a very diverse crowd. Playing venues all around Chicago has helped to develop the well-rounded fan base.

“We have performed at plenty of venues. Such as; The Metro, The Double Door, The Elbo Room, Penny Road Pub, KC's Cabin, Gus's Roadhouse, The Corner bar, Miska's Bar, The Clearwater Theatre, Nitecap Lounge etc...Our favorite venue we've played so far is definitely the Metro in Chicago,IL. We had a blast lightin' up that stage.”

After taking it slow through 2008 to get to know each other musically and personally, Losing Scarlet has become a well-oiled machine ready to take 2009 by storm and they invite you to be a part of it.

“Fans can access our music through www.myspace.com/losingscarlet. We have a ton of info up there including all of our songs and info on the band and it's members. We have a full length album on I-TUNES, Rhapsody, Amazon etc. Pretty much every downloading site that you can think of. You can contact us directly via e-mail, don't be afraid to ask, we’re not shy. Or come out to one of the shows. We always have plenty of merch for sale.”

It seems the boys club is getting some new and more feminine faces. So if you’re in the Chicago area and your idea of a good rock show includes some fierce and aggressive vocals delivered by a sultry front woman, drop in to the Penny Road Pub Saturday October 10th and check out Losing Scarlet.

"Elbo Room Review"

September 24, 2009

Hey, my blogspotters, it's a double shot of the Elbo Room for more fun and music! SouthSide's on tap once again rockin' with Losing Scarlet and old friends from IN, Philpot. Included in this lineup was Paper Thick Walls and Westbury.
Feeling a bit under the weather couldn't stop Jodi and Losing Scarlet from kicking off their mini tour with a bang. This reviewer once again enjoyed the haunting mystique of Jodi's vocals. At times, she made us feel the angst and frustration as well as a soul pining for a love that was never there from the lyrics. Yet to hear the lyrics like that, my readers, you also needed to feel the music too. That's where the heart and soul of Losing Scarlet connect so nicely. A good example of this would be their Blondie cover Call Me in which this band gave the song an edgier metal tone than the 80's disco sound. SouthSide loved the metal feel and take of this cover version making it quite popular among their fans during Scarlet's performances. Besides performing other songs off their current self-titled CD, they debut two new tracks from their upcoming EP due soon. In With This We Fight, SouthSide found her new rock anthem to bang her head to. It was a little rough around the edges but it will get better the more they include this song as part of their playlist. In Shameless Prayer, the gradual build up in the intro led the audience towards a hardcore metal rock that they could sink their teeth into. And trust SouthSide, this didn't satisfy them ...they wanted more of this rockin' band. Losing Scarlet fed their hunger with another new song, Learning to Bleed which had many heads banging to the music. This reviewer highly suggests snagging a copy of their current CD and recommends listening to Philiphobia as well as Foresaken. Seeing them live is even better, my readers. Bio

Losing Scarlet was founded in 2008 when vocalist Jodi Kell informed guitarist Scott Haith she wanted to start a band. After a little collaboration on some early music they approached bassist Petra Sith and the trio instantly hit it off. After putting a call out for all drummers it was an easy choice for the trio after auditioning drummer Conor McCann. Conor was the first to be auditioned and that's all they had to hear...a band was formed!

Losing Scarlet spent most of 2008 getting to understand each other musically. The ideas behind their music begin with Scott coming up with guitar rhythms and bringing them to Jodi. Jodi then comes up with the music's lyrics while Scott presents his ideas to Petra and Conor to add their musical touches. This trust has a profound impact on the music produced and it's apparent when you see them live. The energy that exudes from the stage is unforgettable. In 2009 the band has been playing to a devout following of diverse fans from all areas of the Midwest. In October 2009 Losing Scarlet released it's first self-titled cd and it has been a success beyond all expectation. Losing Scarlet continues to play and rock their audiences with a passion for the music that is often forgotten in the industry today.
