Bio

Los Rokmantix (or LRX as known by their friends) is a San Antonio-based band that mixes American rock roots as well as Mexican influences into a unique style of Rock en Espanol.

The core of the group, Alfonso and Martha, first met in September 2007 at San Antonio’s monthly First Friday art walk. By mere chance, Alfonso caught Martha’s solo acoustic set at El Sol Studios and was immediately impressed with her originals and the ease with which the singer/songwriter was able to relate to an audience. By set’s end the drummer had quickly introduced himself and expressed his interest in forming a band. The pair became fast friends and was soon practicing every weekend, hammering out a set list with songs pulled from Martha’s massive solo repertoire.

Within three months the pair fleshed out an hour’s long set list and, with the addition of Frank on bass, had begun booking gigs on almost weekly basis. No offer was turned down and the band found themselves on the local circuit (in San Antonio as well as Austin) performing alongside various Rock en Espanol, Alternative, and cover bands. In true Do-It-Yourself fashion, the band has also organized semi-monthly parking lot shows at Sam’s Snack Stand. Besides a rough parlor recording of “Melodias,” this lineup’s sole recording was made during an on-air appearance on KSYM radio, copies of which were made and passed out as demos.

Although Frank decided to leave the band in September 2008, Los Rokmantix took this as an opportunity to focus their resolve in making an impact on the San Antonio and Austin music scenes. They are still booking shows for the remainder of 2008 (with help from Mindframe singer/bassist Andy in tow), and are determined to bring their unique mix of Rock en Espanol to the people.
