Lost Martian

Lost Martian is the current project of songwriter, rhythm guitarist, and singer Thea McKay. Thea, who has been writing and performing original music for over half a decade, is at the helm of this group of seasoned and talented musicians, including founding member Viki Pazzano-Chammas on drums. Thea, Viki, and stand in band mates, are excited to bring this new project to life, as they embark on this vibrant and exiting journey. Thea set out playing shows and open mics around 2012 in indie bands both in Toronto, and in Guelph Ontario. Her interest in music grew exponentially since her involvement in these garage-rock groups, and she began to delve into the world of songwriting like never before.In 2012, her art followed her to Shanghai, China, where she became immersed in the underground expat music culture in the city. It was a wild, near two year experience that allowed music to become an even larger part of her life. In China, with a former band, she toured and traveled with punk artists that put their blood sweat and tears into their songwriting and into their live shows.China was a transformative experience for Thea. It prompted her to create the same type of atmosphere with her own shows that she had witnessed with the her friends on the road. These days, on stage, she strives for an immersive fan experience where people can feel free to be their most wild, uninhibited selves.Since her return to the great white north, Thea has put her head down to focus on writing material for Lost Martian. The year 2019 marks the release of their debut EP titled “Otherworldly”. Please watch for the announcement of this on Lost Martian’s social media pages! For this EP, Thea joined forces with Devon Lougheed, a well-known producer in Toronto who has worked with artists such as Skye Wallace, Goodnight Sunrise, Bad Pop, Jules, and other notable Canadian acts.Distorted, driving guitars dominate the Lost Martian EP, while punky, ska-inspired baselines float in the background, adding a laid back element to the songs’ vibrant nature. Thea’s echoing, raw, yet angelic vocals float over all that energy, coating the tracks in a voice that will draw any listener into her heartfelt world of complex emotion.Lyrics touch on various aspects of the fabric of human relationships that make the nature of interpersonal involvement tenuous and complicated, such as love, loss, manipulation, volatility, and unrequited passion.Lost Martian’s influences originate from the likes of rock legends such as No Doubt, Greenday, Weezer, Cage the Elephant, Elastica, Nirvana, CAKE, and the “riot girl” stylings of female lead bands like The Breeders, Hole, and Veruca Salt. It’s that passionate spirit that bands like these embody that is the same fuel to this girl’s fire, and it is this red hot energy that can take the band so far.Lost Martian will have listeners and audiences everywhere dancing, screaming, and singing along with these catchy, cathartic, and melodic hooks that make these tracks great.This group is an electric presence and a force to be reckoned with both on record and on stage.
