Bio
Shona grew up the daughter of an old-time fiddle playing mother and Scottish ballad singing father. She was constantly around many different styles of music, and attended countless music festivals with her family growing up. By the age of 13 she had already been performing on stage at festivals and coffee houses, and collaborating with other singers and songwriters. She picked up the guitar in the 7th grade and wrote her first song. Shona Violet used her high school years to perfect and work on her musical stylings, having her first "headlining" show at a coffee shop when she was in the 11th grade. As she got older, her music started to mature and songs began to pour out of her. Along with the songs however, she also began to appreciate her parent's music more and picked up the fiddle and mandolin. Her influences range many different genre's; bands like Radiohead, Little Dragon and The Dirty Projectors go hand in hand with Tim O'Brien and Eliza Carthy. She also grew up listening to the Bothy Band and Silly Wizard while simultaneously bumping Biggie and Lil Wayne. She incorporates all these different influences which gives her music unique appeal to a variety of audiences.
