"Local “Old-Time” Band to Play at the Down Home"

In an age when performers are judged more by their appearance than the quality of there work there is a glimmer of hope. The Lost Mountain String Band, an Old-Time group from Greeneville is returning to the roots of what East Tennessee music is about. “Old-Time” refers to a style of music often confused with Bluegrass. “Old-Time” actually predates and probably influenced much of what we now know as Bluegrass. It is also easy to draw comparison between the skill needed to play this style with newer more popular genres such as Rock and more modern Country Music. The band is made up of like minded performers who put their music first. Tom Keller, Susan Greineder, John Pruett, Rob Chittum, and Dale Keller all talented musicians on their own, started playing together over the last year. The music they create is original however; it brings back memories of a bygone era. The vocals reflect the depth that can only be found in old souls, while the musicianship has all the vigor of youth. It is obvious, when one first hears this group that each member has spent countless hours of practice with their individual instruments. Each brings a diverse background to the greater whole. What this group lacks in history is made up for by talent and passion. They have been asked to play at the Down Home in Johnson City which is an ideal forum for more diverse music. It is hoped with this show that the Lost Mountain String Band can bring their love of music to new listeners and add to their growing following. Go see them at the Down Home, 300 W. Main St. Johnson City, Thursday February 9th, at 8:00.
