"Music: We the People by Louis King – Los Angeles, CA"

Louis King is on the verge of making some big moves in this music game we live for. In 2013, Louis King was selected as a finalist for Power106 FM’s WhosNew@2 for the single’s “Peace” and “LOUII”. Louis performed with Radio Host Yesi Ortiz & DJ Felli Fel at the Power106 WhosNext Concert. LK then traveled to Austin, TX where he performed at South by South-West with several major artists including Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Problem & Snoop Dogg. Louis King’s heartfelt single “Peace” aired again in the spring of 2013, this time on Steve Harvey’s Morning show. Louis King is set for a big year in the works with “Ahead of My Time”(DP) preceding the “Running Late”(Album) released July 15, 2013. South Banks will deliver their follow-up to the Fit for a King EP in the fall of 2013.
Louis King is a driven, young artist from West Los Angeles, CA, USA, who used his foundation in the streets to spread his music around the world. LOUII can be described as a Musician, Spokesperson, and Hip-Hop Performing Artist among other things. King’s music is a breath of fresh air combining powerful production with lyrical ammunition. Louis King has written and produced for pop, rock, soul, funk and hip-hop artists.
I really like Louis King’s music and I know if you give it a chance you will like as well. Let bring the knowledge back to hiphop.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I selected “We the People” as one of the single’s because I felt the message behind the song needed to be expressed and shared.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
The whole International Slap process is a multi-cultural collaboration created for the masses (not just in the US) and I wanted to make music that real people could identify with. First off, shout out to Loop.Holes in Norway who produced the majority of the project. M & D produced “We the People” and I dabbled in production sampling the loopHoles produced “the Masses Interlude” on “Welcome to Realm of Youth”. I am influenced by many genres and I enjoy todays “Rap music”; I can get hype by hearing bangers with lyrics like “All My niggas look rich as fuck” but all my niggas ain’t rich as fuck. I have been blessed to travel around the world with this music shit so I’m not gonna hate on anyone’s message or my reception of that message; but if I’m gonna share a message with the world its going to mean something to me personally. Have you ever felt trapped, maybe lost, determined, passionate, oppressed, in love? These are real themes in my life and I brought them all to the genre of International Slap.
What was the writing process for the song?
A four-man production group from Oslo, Norway, Loopholes, reached out to me last year after I dropped Ahead of My Time. Ironically, I was already peeping some of their joints online so we went to work on the project. We conceptualized some ideas and created a storyline with a visual to go with it. I actually wrote the album more like a screenplay or treatment embedded upon a soundtrack timeline. This is definitely a different process than I’m used to in music but my background in film production helped me to maintain this universal theme throughout the project.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
Everyone has a voice and the lyrics in this song are meant to resonate whether you’ve felt oppression from a prison, village, desert, city or suburb. My goal with this song and the entire album was to show that regardless of location, culture or material wealth, we are all connected as the people here together on this earth. I thought the best way to start that process would be to connect these people through music, let alone hip-hop a genre that has been marginalized and oppressed since birth. ex. ”If we had an army all the poets & musicians all around the world; that’s something just to think of” (from “We The People”2nd Verse)
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
It’s all about the vibe. We connect to the crowd with the live instruments to set the tone and then I move in with the flow, I look each of the audience members in their eyes and I make sure to they can understand the words & the message.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
We’re all multi-dimensional human beings so I feel that summarizing an artist by any “one” song is like summarizing a person for a trait or single decision they’ve made; we’re all a collection of several different traits, decisions & experiences. I don’t think there is any one song that can summarize me or any artist for that matter but I think this song is a fair representation of my brand and what I stand for.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
The visual was created as a four part series to go along with the music and storyboard. International Slap is a soundtrack-driven video series about a young, African man who travels to Los Angeles seeking out the funds to build a musical studio back in his village of West Africa.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
Real music and real artists will never die out because real people will continue to fight for whats right. My motivation is to spread peace and fight for justice and freedom; against all forms of oppression and corruption; the music is the medium for the message and so much more. Often many claim to have a beneficial purpose but in the words of the great Bob Marley “Soon we’ll find out who is the real revolutionaries…” - ImoveILive
