Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music including many Grammy Award winners.

Song of the Year is excited to recognize Louise for her exceptional songwriting ability for the songs “Neptune”, an instrumental which won her a Finalist spot & “No Telling” which was awarded an Honourable Mention. Louise competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honour. When asked what inspired the songs Louise commented that “for “Neptune” it was the freedom of a new life & for “No Telling” it was the observation of everyday life.

Currently Louise is playing around town as well as concentrating on her songwriting career. She is aiming for a publishing deal “My songs are currently being played on a few radio stations both nationally & internationally, but I’d love to snare that elusive publishing deal”

Bio

Louise Hughes: Louise Hughes's career as a professional performer began in 1972, covering many facets of live music such as Rock, Cabaret, Motown, Jazz and Blues. She took an opportunity to come to Australia, in the early 70’s & immediately went into a Melbourne based showband, learning everything about music on the way. She backed performers such as Little Patti & Lucky Starr.

Married to the very talented late Peter Bonner, Louise did the Federal circuit in Australia under the names “Double Dynamite” & “Bonnie & Clyde’s Government”. Louise & Peter also recorded & produced their own single at Armstrong Studios in Tasmania, “If You Could Read My Mind” & “Golden Guitar”.

Louise is probably best known as part of the all girl band The Party Girls, which achieved great recognition & success in the 1980’s. The Party Girls supported international acts such as Meat Loaf, The Sweet and Suzi Quatro, as well as Simple Minds and The Eurythmics. They were also a headline act themselves, having a chart topping album, appearing at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, Oz for Africa, & appearing on many T.V. shows.

In the mid 90’s Louise returned to New Zealand & while there toured as lead guitarist with New Zealand's No. 1 funk band, Ardijah, as well as performing for the “Coca Cola Christmas in the Park” concerts, of which she was Musical Director for the late Dalvanius Prime.

In recent years, Louise recorded a ten track alternate blues CD with New Zealand musicians Patrick Kuhtze on drums, Stuart Pearce ..s, Max Stowers on bass & the backing vocals of Sharon Tuapawa with Louise on vocals, electric, slide & acoustic guitars as well as backing vocals.

She then formed a blues/rock line-up called "The Louise Hughes Band". This band featured Louise and her son Bobby-Joe Bonner on lead guitars. They covered Texas Blues plus tracks from her CD.

As a solo artist, Louise's repertoire harnesses and reflects her unique onstage presence and amplifies her ability to communicate with her audience through her music. Above all she has an unbelievable ability to stun her audience with her amazing guitar licks and vocal feel, whether it is in her original material or in covering Texas blues & country styles.

Louise is revered by many as being Australia's top female lead guitarist!

Louise is currently writing for a new album with songwriter/lyricist Linda King. Linda, who plays harp & rhythm guitar, will also form half of a new blues line-up with Louise.
Linda King: Toured in the 70's with her band "Disco House" as rhythm guitarist & harpist. Linda was a top Sydney club DJ throughout the 80's.
For the last decade she has been writing songs & only recently has gone back to performing.
