"10 underrated stoner metal bands from Toronto"

"This duo is one of Toronto’s best-kept secrets. Guitarist/vocalist Snow Wauna is a tremendous talent, with a wail that pairs perfectly with bluesy, down-tuned riffs. Wauna’s range gives the band the freedom to explore dynamics well beyond the volume and heft of their peers." - NOW Magazine

“Orphans” is the perfect soundtrack to any 60’s biker film marathon. Lousy Rider is a two piece hailing from Toronto Ontario. The band also features regular collaborations from legendary Metal producer Greg Dawson, and jack-of-all-trades musician Mike Simpson.

The album features both ends of the stoner metal spectrum; the groove-oriented“fairy wear boots” style Sabbath worship, to something a bit more sinister. “Devil’s Chair”, “You Made Me”, and “Fake House Love” bring weight through crushing riffs, and off-kilter drum beats. These tracks are much more Metal than their previous EP, and showcase growth within the band. The Kyuss flair comes through with “Radiation” and “You Made Me” that focus on vocal harmonies that are seldom pulled off in modern stoner metal.

Like all great stoner metal albums, it ends with a classic instrumental jam track. Taking a page from Sons of Otis, Lousy Riders flex their musical chops to weave a delicate and haunting instrumental aptly titled “Stoned”.

Overall. If thick riffs and out-of- the box approaches to metal sub-genres is your kind of thing, Lousy Rider’s “Orphans” is a must check out for you. - The Sludgelord

"Lousy Riders Infuse Their Stoner Metal with Melody and Guitar Solos on 'End of Light'"

Stoner metal often operates in the realm of tone worship that makes most contemporary bands feel uninspired and rehashed. Lousy Riders, on the other hand, utilize this wonderful grey area that explores a wide range of subgenres to the best of their abilities.

Lousy Riders' End of Light sends its listeners on an emotional rollercoaster that is unlike any other in heavy music. Melody reigns supreme throughout the record — whether it is the biker groove on "Black Box," the vocal chorus on "Forever" or the off-beat swing of "Orphans," there is something unexpected throughout the album. Just when the listener has settled into what they feel the album will offer, End of Light offers something completely different.

Often considered a faux pas in the genre, Lousy Riders have utilized guitar solos in a way that contributes to the album in a meaningful way, including the shredding passages on "Forever" and the full on blues assault of "Kill My Young." End of Light can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. With tons of melodic vocals, crushing riffs and even straight up blues music, there is something on here for everyone. (Independent) - Exclaim!
