Love Alien is an independent and progressive (activist) NYC-based act which has toured nationally and internationally. "One of the most promising up-&-comers in the NY scene "- NOW, UK
- - Jill M. Simon (lead vocals, lyrics) ( "LOVE ALIEN' performances are exhilirating...Jill is white light/white heat onstage" -Steve Weitzman, booker, NY, former writer at Rolling Stone) is a singer-songwriter-actress and the front-woman in the band. Bandleader Thomas Simon ( guitar, keys, bass, percussions, vox. also produces, composes music for film and theater, and recently completed a documentary "Thomas Simon: Walkabout", traveling from Vienna to Brasil to Nepal and India, interviewing and jamming with musicians. Jill and Thomas teamed up with awesome players from all over the world (including Alan Gevaert, bassist from Belgium (Chris Whitley, recorded with Sarah McLachlan), Lior Shulman, drums & percussions from Israel, Brian Hardgroove, NYC, bass & drums from NY (Chuck D, Public Enemy), Satoru Ito, bassist from Japan (Ultra Bide) and most recently with Dave Eggars (played with Pearl Jam, The Who among others) cellist from NY, and Brad Craig, from NYC (Nasty Facts) on bass. - Thomas's influences include Iggy Pop, Keith Richards, Brian Eno, Chris Whitley, Bauhaus and world music, Jill's influences include Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Debby Harry, Neil Young, Nirvana... They've played many benefits (Mission on Earth - helping save the planet),including Benefit for the Independent Media Center-NY' with Riconstruction, benefits for WTC victims & firefighters families, on the West Capitol steps in Wash. D.C. at a rally against Bush (& for voters rights)... NYC gigs have included Webster Hall, on the bill w/ Spacehog, Don Hill's w/ Hanzel und Gretyl, Continental (w/ Marky Ramone & the Intruders at the INTEL- fest. LOVE ALIEN also played a number of Woodstock festivals, including Woodstock Delirium on Yasgurs Farm, w/ Buzzy Linhart, Country Joe, Melanie etc, in a free three day music fest in front of 25,000 (peaceful!) people. - - Making people feel free to shed their inhibitions and dance on a number of continents, LOVE ALIEN toured Europe three times with an additional appearance in Tel Aviv, Israel, in '99 (also playing live on national television, arts and entertainment channel) and toured the US seven times with additional shows in Canada in '98, opening for Dale Bozzio ("Missing Persons") in AZ. - - The new cd "In the Waves" is the fourth album released on Endorphin Records. "You" and "Fall in NYC" were pre-released to Austria's national alternative station FM4, & are receiving airplay. ( "In The Waves" was recorded over a period of three years during which time Jill was also starring in N.Y. theater ("There's one great idea in "Cocaine Dreams - the inspired notion of having an actress, Jill Simon portray the drug, behaving like a highly seductive mistress. The idea works, Simon couldn't be better - NY Post), was in "A Beautiful Mind"", "As The World Turns", indies "Confess"(starring Melissa Leo) and "Pisser", and off-off broadway theater, and Thomas was commissioned to create music for film soundtrack "Black Wine " and multi-media productions at Space in Vienna,( which also debuted "Fall in NYC", written in 2001) was composer, musical director and played live for dark rock musical "The Damned" ( "The Damned - a rock musical featuring Thomas Simon has made this town take notice... a hot ticket not to miss.'--Village Voice, NYC) and completed the first episode of his documentary "Walkabout". ) "Blue Planet preview", released in '99, has received airplay on college and commercial radio stations worldwide ( the track "Blue Moon" was in the top 40 on mp3.com's alternative genre.) Three songs off their '97 release "Lost Dark & Insane" are on the soundtrack of independent feature film "Copy Shop", a black comedy which stars Jill in the role of Rita - directed by five-time Emmy winner William Electric Black. Also in 1997 Jill and Thomas were interviewed by Khazakstan National Television, aired to an audience of 20 million viewers. And of their first album, "First Encounter", which got airplay on K-ROCK, FM, Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith Group) said "it's my new favorite car music."
