Bio

This year, sexy electro-pop sensations the LOVE GRENADES will release their debut EP, Tigers in the Fire on notorious dance label Modus Vivendi Music. Led by Liz Wight, a frontwoman described by Sam Sparro as being “like Deborah Harry with raven-black hair,” the Love Grenades fuse punk attitude, electronic beats and seductive vocals to create a sound that’s rapidly winning over Los Angeles audiences.

The Love Grenades have a history of packing LA’s hippest venues, including the Silverlake Lounge and the Echo, where they are about to embark on a month-long residency. Tracks such as “Tigers in the Fire” and “Young Lovers” have been on heavy rotation in local underground dance clubs well before their official release, in addition to making playlists on radio stations KCRW and INDIE 103.1. LA Weekly has called the band “as scorching as they are seductive – a collective soundtrack for making out one-on-one or maxing out with a hundred sweaty strangers on the dance floor.” Metromix Los Angeles concurs, “We’ve fallen in love with Liz Wight and her Love Grenades. It’s easy to do, given her sultry good looks and sleek, dance-poppy tunes.”

The Love Grenades will be performing material off Tigers in the Fire, a high-energy collection of dance-infused tunes of heartbreak, defiant independence, and life in Los Angeles. The release, due for release later this year on notorious dance label Modus Vivendi Music, contains the radio-ready title song along with a number of remixes from Modus’ international roster of DJ’s and producers. Of the EP’s sound, a mixture of Italo disco beats, funky bass and Wight’s inimitable vocal style – a cross between soulful crooning and female rap – Liz says, “I see that LA is radically divided as to what kind of music is ‘cool,’ and there are so many different scenes, but I want my music to be very inclusive.” Title track “Tigers in the Fire,” produced by former Giorgio Moroder protégé Dave Darling (Tom Waits, Stray Cats) could be a statement of purpose for the Love Grenades – the melding of wah-wah guitar, smooth three-part harmonies and dancefloor grooves supporting the song’s brazen message of empowerment: “I can do anything that I like/I can screw anyone that’s nice/then walk away.” The EP includes a number of remixes of Love Grenades tracks by MVM label mates Wayfarer (Munich, Germany), Disco Damage (London, UK), Julian Brody (Mexico City, MX), Martin Peter (Munich, Germany) and also features a special version of “Young Lovers” remixed by UK chart sensation Sam Sparro.

This year, let the LOVE GRENADES steal your heart with their dazzling new release Tigers in the Fire set for release on December 9, 2008.
