"LOVEHATETHING competes in national 'Reprise Rivalry' contest"

A local band is hoping to win a national competition and endorsement from four well-known equipment brands for a year.

LOVEHATETHING has rocked their way to the top of a list of more than 600 bands in the “Reprise Rivalry” competition and is counting on the community to propel them all the way to the finish.

Winning could drive band members Ryan Eshleman, Sean Clever and Matt P. Cole from Greencastle and Chambersburg into full-time music careers. Eshleman, 29, plays bass guitar and sings lead vocals. Clever, 33, plays the guitar and sings. Cole, 33, plays drums and provides backup vocals.

The competition

LOVEHATETHING is one of the top finalists in the competition by Marshall, VOX, Korg and Lag — four equipment brands that will endorse the winner of the competition for a year.

The first round of the competition began in July where each band received online votes for a submitted song. The top bands have been selected and have received a $400 equipment pack to remix or reprise the song they submitted in the first round.

“You have to get the most downloads,” Eshleman said, adding the final stage lasts for one month.

The band is currently in first place with its song, “Exit Game.” Voting ends Friday, Oct. 22.

to download the free remixed version of “Exit Game.”

The band started the competition in the end of July and credits some of their early success to Facebook and other social networking sites.

Life-changing

Eshleman added the endorsements make this competition a must-win.

“It’s huge,” Cole said.

“This could be a giant stepping stone,” Clever added.

Endorsements from the four equipment providers would go a long way in getting LOVEHATETHING to open for well-known bands.

“If you try to book with a national band, they want to know your credentials,” Eshleman said.

“We all work full time,” Eshleman said, adding the band’s dream is to play music for a living.

“It takes enormous dedication. We have to make time to do this,” Clever said. “We are now starting to see the fruits of our labor.”

Winning the contest will also help with the music scene in Franklin County, Eshleman said.

“It’s important to help build the local music scene,” Clever added. “To keep the artistic vision alive.”

The band

LOVEHATETHING was formed in 2009, and began booking gigs in bars and at benefits, car shows and festivals.

They have released their first album, “The Disco Killer,” with the help of Jarred Cannon, serving as engineer. The band completed the 10 song CD in just eight days. It can be purchased on Amazon.com and cdbaby.com

All three members performed in other bands before coming together as LOVEHATETHING.

The band is booked at local venues every weekend through the end of November and is looking for December bookings. A list of their performances can be found on the band’s website:

LOVEHATETHING is the product of 3 long time friends and their infinite love of heavy, soulful and driving music. Formed in South Central Pennsylvania in 2009, this power trio has swept through the region gaining notoriety as a “Rock’n’Roll Machine.” LOVEHATETHING “hit the ground running” with the release of the their debut album “The Disco Killer,” in less than a year.

In August of 2009, the band began their quest for stardom, playing bars, benefits, car shows, and festivals throughout the Tristate taking advantage of every opportunity available to get in front of eager listeners. Shortly there after, along with their friend Jarred Cannon (of Hierosonic) at the helm as the engineer, the band recorded at Soundmine Studio in East Stroudsburg, PA. The band finished a full length 10 song Rock ‘N’ Roll Monster titled, “The Disco Killer,” in just 8 days. The album was released, and digitally distributed world wide on itunes.com, amazon.com, cdbaby.com, and digstation.com. It is also in regular rotation on WRZO 102.9 The Razor and has since been put into rotation on several online radio stations. In July of 2010 the band was selected as one of eight finalists in the nationwide Reprise Rivalry Competition sponsored by sonic bids.com. LOVEHATETHING also maintained a 5 star rating on garage band.com. Everyone who hears, “The Disco Killer”, seems to agree that there is a very bright future ahead for these original, aspiring and inspiring musicians.

LOVEHATETHING LIVE! As an attendant of a live show, one could expect to sit comfortably in their seat sipping beverages, and socializing with other onlookers. However, as an attendant at a LOVEHATETHING show, there will be no sitting, sipping, or socializing!!! There is only a flurry of Rock ‘N’ Roll fury characterized by raging guitars, methodic rhythmic , and melodic vocals with a harmonic infusion.

LOVEHATETHING has an impressive array of endeavors for the latter part of 2010. Inspired by the deployment of their manager, Eric Shields, to serve in Iraq, the band is orchestrating a benefit for soldiers serving their country abroad. Groundwork for the benefit is coming together and it is expected to be in place early 2011. They have released one music video for the song, "Sex on the Brain," which can be viewed on the bands website and on youtube. They are expected to shoot another music video in early 2011 as well and are currently writing material for an upcoming release in mid 2011.
