""...a serious 90s hard rock resurgence, which may be needed right now.""

Love Jupiter
self-released; 2013

3.9 out of 5

By Sean Dennison
Love Jupiter is a Brooklyn quartet that delivers up a thunderous portion of hyper-aggressive rock that fuses elements of metal and progressive rock.

Massive guitar riffs and thick bass chords populate their self-titled album Love Jupiter. Sometimes I get a Tool vibe and other times I pick up on Sound Garden elements. Whatever influence I think Love Jupiter is trying to work in, it ALL sounds good. For example: "Prince of Wales" delivers searing energy and excellent drumming that goes toward creating a particularly affecting ballad. "I Told You So" expertly juggles Black Sabbath-inspired dramatics with glam rock-like hooks. The comparably more restrained "Wake Up The Kids" is just as heavy but the strength of the composition is spread out, and there even some genuinely quiet moments that offset the burst of energy that reels back in your attention.

Personal favorites include: "Temptress," the best track on the album, but sadly the last one on the list. Nirvana-styled guitar work with the hypnotic verse, "Temptress, Mistress, I cannot forget your kiss." It is another one of the slower songs on the album, and as such one of the more distinctive. "Love Makes You Cry" also gets my full attention with the multi-vocal harmonies wailing over an electric riffed tuned in desperation. Love Jupiter rely on the heavy stuff, but they're so good at pulling it off it's not even an issue!

And that's my main enjoyment of the album, the huge frikken riffs, man. Nine tracks of some of the best ideas to hit hard rock in the last several years are on Love Jupiter's debut. This is a perfect example where I'd rather have someone listen to the album than read the review. I can throw out comparisons all day, but in the end, Love Jupiter is trying something new, in that they're rock purists who eschew the whimsical love crap that seem to permeate the radio waves. If these guys get their way, we could be looking at a serious 90s hard rock resurgence, which may be needed right now. - The Equal Ground

"INTERVIEW with Love Jupiter Frontman, CHIC CIULLA"

Published December 3, 2013
Indie Music Digest

IMD How did this latest release come together?
LJ The songs were written over a period of about a year from 2011 to 2012, and then recorded in the Fall of 2012 with Kenny Lienhardt. He’s a pretty legendary sound man from the Bowery Ballroom and he has a studio with massive amounts of vintage equipment. We recorded it on 24 track tape and mixed it with him and then had it mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer James Cruz. Pretty early on we noticed a lyrical, narrative thread going through the album that kind of presented itself and, in a way, dictated the order of the songs and some of the choices we made with mixes, etc. that in the end led to this really cohesive, powerful document of a vibe that we’re extremely proud of. We’re really happy with it.

IMD Who are some of your top musical influences growing up?

LJ The evolution was kind of like this:  Hard rock bands like Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, then New Wave Bands (The Cure, Smiths, etc), then post- punk (Fugazi, Jawbox, Shudder To Think-DC Bands, Baltimore bands), then some avant-garde type stuff (Einsturzende Neubauten, The Birthday Party, Last Exit) Singer-songwriters: Leonard Cohen, Dylan, Nick Cave, Elliot Smith and then Soul-Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye.

IMD What is your songwriting process like?

LJ Sometimes we have one riff that we’ll jam on over and over that might inspire and become a whole tune. Some songs come in structurally complete, with all the parts, and everyone lays down their tracks supporting the tune. We all have our influences and many bands our age probably share the same influences, but when it comes to writing and finishing a song we really just try to follow the song; its lyrics, and the mood we want to create. The song tells us where to go.

IMD Tell us about this latest CD? Is there 1 track that really stands out for you?

LJ A couple of tunes stand out. History is one. It has a long spoken word part that kind of reworked on the fly in the studio. The whole song was recorded and the section for the spoken word turned out to be an odd amount of beats, so we had to fit the spoken word part perfectly into the 13 or so bars that were open for it. Lyrics were re-written on the spot and performed with lots of feedback from the rest of the band and Kenny. It took quite a few tries to fit the lyrics into that spot, but in the end it sounded great. It was kind of a cool thing because if we had recorded it digitally, we would have taken the lyrics as is and cut and paste the music to match it. But we had to work with the seeming limitation of the tape machine and that was fun. We like being painted into a corner like that. Snow Ghost is another one that we like because it just explodes and has all the Love Jupiter elements. It’s heavy, it’s loose, it’s kind of weird, but has a beautiful section to it. In the end part you can hear Mark’s guitar strings literally being lifted off the neck of his guitar with his fingers as he’s playing the final solo. I love the tension it creates.

IMD How have you changed and evolved as an artist over the last few years?

LJ I think this band has changed as we’ve all grown. We’ve become so much more efficient and our language and shorthand way of communicating with each other has become pretty honed, which in the end just makes it more satisfying and enjoyable. We have lot of fun doing all the things that go with being in the band. Rehearsing, recording, playing live.

IMD What’s it best and worst things about being an artist from your locale?

LJ Not sure if we look at it that way, but I guess being from the NYC area, obviously there is a just massive amount of music going on all the time. So, I guess it can be hard to either define a scene or break into one. We’ve been around for a bit, even before this band, so, we have a lot of friends in good bands that we like to play and organize shows with. So, the upside too, is that there are so many venues to play to work out your sound.

IMD What’s the best thing about performing live?

LJ The metamorphosis that happens.  In our regular life we are pretty relaxed, focused. But, we’re animals onstage. Like feral dogs. Something just happens. The lights dim, the drums kick in and we change. People come out to see us and we feel it’s our duty to give them something. It’s such a gift when people come out to see live music and support you. We try to send them home with something memorable.

IMD What does Love Jupiter represent to its fans?

""Love Jupiter delivers on all fronts and quite frankly BLEW ME AWAY.""

Despite just now launching their independent debut, Brooklyn's Love Jupiter have been kicking around in their own local scene, and elsewhere along the east coast, for a number of years prior. Love Jupiter came about as a collaboration between a group of like-minded musicians who wanted to put their own stamp on the post-punk and alt-rock genres, and while it pays obvious homage to those who have come before, Love Jupiter manage to make these nine tracks their own...for better and for worse.

The better? The dark, groove-centric foundation of most of Love Jupiter, which gives almost every song a feel of foreboding, of seedier things going on behind the scenes. This was an element of post-punk that morphed into the "goth rock" genre, and an element that the band is definitely honed in on.

"Everything Is Alright" and "Told You So" are more straightforward rockers, solid in their own right, but it isn't until the slow, sinister, Bauhaus-esque "History" that my attention is absolutely caught. "Love Makes You Cry" is a surprise as well, and while it's not altogether pleasant, it shows Love Jupiter tapping into their inner alt-rock balladeering.

"The Prince Of Wails," which may be the best track on the record, is instantly grabbing with a soft guitar melody before some of the record's best vocals/lyrics kick in. The song builds up into a dark, gritty atmosphere, almost contradicting the bittersweet intro, but doing so tastefully. "Wake Up The Kids" is another fantastic piece of music, a sad tale even if you can't put your finger on exactly why. Poignant lyricism mixes with soft, moving rock and digs deep under the skin. "Heat" gets back to basics, a full-fledged post-punk romp, and "Tempress" sounds like Danzig meeting Fields Of The Nephilim for a crafty, smoky jam.

The only thing I can find to complain about, and it isn't exactly a minor complaint, is the mix of vocals throughout the record. While they occasionally fit a track perfectly (more often than not, actually), they almost seem out of place at times, or distracting at others. We're talking personal preference here, but on some of the darker tracks, a varied vocal approach would have been appreciated. Regardless, Love Jupiter is an intriguing, well-written debut for a band whose experience is obvious. Some really memorable moments are mixed into this worthwhile grab for anyone longing for the various waves of 80's and 90's post-punk and alt-rock that have seemingly died down lately. - Music Emissions

While many feel the music industry is in disarray right now it's always a breath of fresh air to hear a new and exciting band that's not afraid to take chances with their music. Enter New York rock band Love Jupiter who just released an impressive set of songs on their debut self titled effort (2013).

How would one describe Love Jupiter? How about powerful, haunting sound. Heavy Beautiful. In 2011, bassist Matt Adamec and drummer Bob DeRienzo found themselves in two bands with longstanding collaborators pursuing similar trajectories: "Jupiter," an avante-power trio with singer-guitarist Michael "Chickie" Ciulla, and "Of," an ethereal power trio with singer-guitarist Mark Goetz. A merger followed, and Love Jupiter was born. "Heavy Beautiful" was realized from the first sessions. Built on a percussive frenzy, harmonic notes are plucked from the heavens, and a passionate, provocative narrative unfolds. Telling ordinary tales of extraordinary things, Love Jupiter connects us to the universal power and emotional rawness of love, loss, favor and fury. The result is potent and mesmerizing. Heavy. Beautiful. Playing live, Love Jupiter unleashes its cosmic fury and induces the same in their audience. It' hard, it's heavy, it's rock and roll, re-imagined and reinvigorated.

Love Jupiter released their first full length album in July 2013. This CD is an upbeat indie-rock alternative CD but unpredictable nonetheless. It's also clear to me they have surpassed what many consider to be the a-typical alt-rock release in 2013. From the beginning track 1 "Everyhing is All Right" through to track 9: "Temptress," Love Jupiter delivers on all fronts and quite frankly BLEW ME AWAY.

This debut Love Jupiter statement is in itself a hooky alt-rock musical anthem and delivers 9 tracks that will keep you mesmerized with awesome messages, and music that is slightly adrenalized but a vibe that is unmistakably Love Jupiter. Together Mark Goetz and his band deliver many impressive musical styles like vintage retro Pop of the 70';s and even Alternative-Rock to traditional Singer/Songwriter Rock. Now that's a pretty whacked out yet impressive list. Some of the pieces I really liked are as follows: "Heat," "I Told you So" and "Snow Ghost." A few tracks even expand the possibilities of a radio hit in the making like "Love Makes you Cry." What's more, the Production value (Recording, Mixing, Mastering) pulls out all the stops as well. The music of Love Jupiter will also remind you of O.A.R, Dispatch, Tim Reynolds, and Weezer. On the other end of the sonic spectrum I can also hear: Grizzly Bear, Philip Selway, end even Beck.

Like I had mentioned the production value is also top notch and the vocal front of Ciulla really gets the point across. Vocally he also goes beyond traditional pigeonholing by music critics like myself. Ciulla delivers a gifted rocked out vocal ability as he glides with precision through all pieces (guitar/vocals) with amazing harmonies and a captivating vocal timber.

In close much of Love Jupiter goes beyond just good playing and amazing songwriting. Lyrics are also an important factor for me when listening to a band or artist. In this aspect I found Love Jupiter most impressive as they paint you an impressive visual between the spoken word via messages of hope, love, mystery and the love of life itself.

Love Jupiter drops CD

Artist: Love Jupiter
CD: Love Jupiter
BANDCAMP: http://lovejupiter.bandcamp.com

Love Jupiter is a 4 piece band from New York. This might just be the perfect locale to explore the explosive-neurotic realm of musical expression. Their latest self titled album is a somewhat dark-witty-melancholy but truthful collection of melodic rock that reveals all the a-typical conventions of alt-rock, creating a solid yet catchy album. Love Jupiter is comprised of singer/guitarist M. “Chickie” Ciulla, singer/guitarist, Mark Goetz, bassist Matt Adamec and drummer Bob DeRienzo.

How would one describe them? Their sound is one that embraces the passion and feral energy of such post-punk heavies as Sonic Youth, Fugazi and The Afghan Whigs while looking into the Heavens and hitching their rockets to such ethereal bodies as Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine. In this way, they tell their stories of love, loss, favor and fury against an epic, cosmic backdrop. The result is both Heavy and Beautiful; rock and roll, re-imagined, and reinvigorated.

On this you’ll hear Ciulla’s impressive writing and singing style that really lets it all hang out. Chickie is a very impressive talent, and also grants one rare access to peer into the tormented soul of a quintessential artist – from his dynamic perspective. He is a marquee talent within the band.

The first track “Everything is All Right” is an explosive/impressive kickoff statement. It does a great job of starting things off and gets one attempting to get ready for what’s around the corner, which in itself presents a stunning 9 tracks line-up. As the CD slowly runs the gamut it has much to offer in the way of melodic music, hard hitting guitars, interesting lyrics and captivating vocals. The off the wall messages are brilliant. Musical comparables include bands like The Mindless Self Indulgence, Sum 41, Electric Six, and Beck. I can also hear Modest Mouse. One cannot help but admire artists with strong songwriting skills and truthful conviction all the while demonstrating a strong a level of creativity. One senses a growing ambition as this album advances.

Love Jupiter’s appealing sound, hot to the touch playing and writing style hit the mark with intellectually stimulating lyrics providing a very real and powerful source of inspiration. This is one of those bands not afraid to put their toe into the Psychedelic side of the pool and really push the limits. Just listen to “History” and “Snow Ghost” to see what I’m talking about. The musicianship pulls out all the stops, and the overall production value tows the line. All in all a great set of songs. These guys are capable players.

Notable standout songs for me include: “Everything is All Right" and “Wake up the Kids.”

If you want a fun-zany-eccentric-shock to the system via a hard rocking staple there’s something on this record for you. Obviously many out there will identify with Love Jupiter. Some of this plays into favorable marketability. If these guys have a great live they show that would be a deadly combination. Some pieces present more modern sounding overtones but despite the flavor there are still traditional Alternative Rock textures from earlier Punk Rock eras. If The White Stripes would have collaborated with The Strokes it may have sounded a lot like this. This is a compliment of the highest order. This is really what makes Love Jupiter so enticing to me personally. In this aspect these 4 deliver 9 tantalizing performances with a rocked out energy that is electrifying and stimulating.

""...the emphasis here is not on simple 4/4 rhythms shall we say.""

Skope

They don’t call it Psychedelic Rock for nothing. Whether my mood is upbeat or downbeat, serious or playful, extroverted or introverted, there are musical choices aplenty to complement, enhance or counteract it on this CD by Brooklyn band Love Jupiter. In their own words, they call its powerful, haunting sound ‘Heavy Beautiful’.

In 2011, bassist Matt Adamec and drummer Bob DeRienzo found themselves in two bands with longstanding collaborators pursuing similar trajectories— “Jupiter,” an avante-power trio with singer-guitarist Michael ‘Chickie’ Ciulla, and “Of,” an ethereal power trio with singer-guitarist Mark Goetz. A merger followed, and Love Jupiter was born. ’Heavy Beautiful’ was realized from the first sessions.

On this 9 track CD Love Jupiter delivers what I can only describe as perfect Alternative Punk Rock combination with a Brooklyn type zip. It has flavorings of reckless rock, punk rock that’s a bit out of control, but, perhaps surprisingly for someone whose primary genera is Rock, the emphasis here is not on simple 4/4 rhythms shall we say. No Love Jupiter go much deeper than that.

Early tracks ‘Everything is All Right” and “I Told You So” have a contemplative, chaotic feel, becoming almost hypnotic in places. The rocked out textures of this 4 piece are especially evocative. “History” has a sonic progressive rock feel to it, lending more towards a Radiohead feel but it could hardly be called mainstream. Some tracks are a bit emotional; "Love Makes You Cry” and "Prince of Wales,” while “Heat” takes it up a notch and will cause your jaw to hit the floor. Love Jupiter at times reminds me of: The Pigeon Detectives, Miles Kane, Razorlight, The Vaccines and The Strokes, All tracks have a particularly steady-thrumming bass line that adds firmness and tension. Vocals from [Ciulla] are off the hook.

All songs are a return to straight Psychedelic Punk Rock with a stuttering rhythm section underpinning some terrific work from all involved. Love Jupiter is one Brooklyn based band who has played numerous shows around that region and beyond. This CD by Love Jupiter is a great pickup if you’re either in a mellow mood or looking to instill a more trippier one. While this is music you could work or play to, it’s most suited to a more mind melding contemplation. Now isn’t that something we could all use a little more of in our lives right no? Love Jupiter sets it all to well.

CD REVIEW

Who doesn’t like music from New York? I bet all hands go up in the air. Most people can get into a good Big Apple groove in no time flat and really enjoy well written and performed music from that area. You know bands like: The Ramones, The Strokes, The New York Dolls, The National and The Velvet Underground.

Well, keeping all this in mind this latest 9 track release from Love Jupiter is in itself an exceptional CD. It’s very multi-dimensional to say the least and has a feel that is of musical legends. Citing their bio: Built on a percussive frenzy, harmonic notes are plucked from the heavens, and a passionate, provocative narrative unfolds. Telling ordinary tales of extraordinary things, Love Jupiter connects us to the universal power and emotional rawness of love, loss, favor and fury. The thing I found most striking about Love Jupiter is it possesses an Alternative Pop Rock core accessible by all listeners – even by Punk and Experimental Ambient Rock fans. Does all of this sound a bit over the top to you? Just listen to marquee tracks like “Love Makes You Cry” And “History” and you’ll see my perspective.

I got hooked on Love Jupiter right away after listening to the first few moments of Track 1 "Everything is All Right.” Love Jupiter provides a unique yet accessible blend of tripped out guitars, polyrhythmic beats, tasty groove-ridden bass lines and infectious vocals from singer/guitarist Mark Goetz. Other members include: Matt Adamec - Vocals, Bass, Michael “Chickie” Ciulla - Vocals, Guitar, Bob DeRienzo – Drums. Indeed their sound is testament to how they approach music, slightly crazy, honest zany and a bit sarcastic-comical. Love Jupiter bridges a diverse audience with a distinguishing sonic vision and highly original sound. Kudos goes out to the amazing drumming and rhythm section from DeRienzo and vocals/guitar from Goetz.

I hate to pigeonhole but if you like Cake, Radiohead. Pixies, Eels, Robbie Williams, and even Interpol you will like the music of Love Jupiter. All of this applies to live shows. Playing live, Love Jupiter unleashes its cosmic fury and induces the same in their audience. It’s hard, it’s heavy, it’s rock and roll, re-imagined and reinvigorated.

Love Jupiter released their first full length album in July 2013.

The Bottom Line While the main focus of this genre of music is generally the instrumental work, that doesn’t mean that the vocals fall behind here. Here they never feel like an afterthought. Hence the voice from Goetz really brings it all together. Goetz manages to move between the mellower sounds and the more rocking ones all the while being undeniably alt-rock based. All in all it’s a powerful combination that puts a band like Love Jupiter on the map for 2013. They should go a long way towards proving that real music is still alive and well in New York.

""This debut CD is a masterpiece of simplicity...""

Love Jupiter – Self-Titled
Posted on October 25, 2013 by Dan Harr

by Zachary Rush / Edited by Mindy McCall

As a music fans aficionado who’s strictly a voyeur, a writer who’s never played a lick or tried to fit different musical components together into a cohesive whole, I’m intrigued by the idea of a centerpiece member like Mark Goetz playing in this 5 piece band called Love Jupiter. This surging Brooklyn band is somewhat of a musical force. As if writing 9 compelling tracks isn’t enough, Matt Adamec – Vocals, Bass, Michael “Chickie” Ciulla – Vocals, Guitar, Bob DeRienzo – Drums, Mark Goetz – Vocals, Guitar.

Love Jupiter has managed to hit a home run with this, their latest self titled release. This debut CD is a masterpiece of simplicity proving again that good Alternative Rock need not be taken too seriously – but never to be taken to lightly. Love Jupiter achieves their own distinctive voice in a significant part by featuring the effective guitar/voice combination at the core of all these songs.

At the same time with all of the expanded tonal ranges and expressiveness that 4 instruments can dish out – making for a unique sonic experience altogether. The ultimate beauty of this album, though, is in the way Goetz so weaves his ever lamenting battle cry in and out of the foreground of these tracks, playing a mostly supporting role on numbers like “Love Makes you Cry” and “Show Ghost”.

Then taking the spotlight on more straight forward “Everything is all Right” and more explicit “I Told You So” and “History.” Love Jupiter clearly feels equally as comfortable powering through the modern alt-rock grooves of the former as tiptoeing through the more contemplative, sonic alternative punk contrails of the latter. On Track 8 “Heat” Love Jupiter finds the seam between the two approaches, delivering a steady interlude of music in the midst of musical chaos making for a sizzling little number.

Much of the album unfolds in similar fashion as Love Jupiter alternates solo/duo meditative moments with deftly executed, often-challenging rocked out syncopation. They are all quite the writers and players. Love Jupiter reminds me of: Dirty Pretty Things, Oasis, Editors, The Kooks, The Black Keys, Muse, Interpol and White Lies. The common thread throughout all of these pieces is Goetz and his adventurous playing and open minded musical vision.

On this 9 track CD called “Love Jupiter” this band courageously explores the boundaries between modern alt-rock and clever high energy punk with uncommon subtlety and grace.

CD REVIEW

Love Jupiter is an interesting 4 piece rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Band members are: Matt Adamec - Vocals, Bass, Michael “Chickie” Ciulla - Vocals, Guitar, Bob DeRienzo – Drums and Mark Goetz - Vocals, Guitar. Their mission: To create music that allowed me to express a desire to reside in some barely cozy place. Maybe not far from boring, but not completely insane yet deep enough to stretch my legs but also shallow enough for me to somehow breathe. A record that would allow the listener to move forward without looking back.

The CD quickly takes to flight with rocking intro piece “Everything is All Right.” This song serves up infectious rocked out guitars painted against mesmerizing vocals, hypnotic lyrical content and dynamic rhythms that quickly lead you by the hand down the path of trippy musical indulgence. Track 2 “I Told You So” keeps things rocking with its psychedelic groove, impressive touches and accents painted against a grand mosaic of sound. The striking musical flow of this piece brilliantly moves like an ocean across the ears. All in all it’s my favorite piece on the CD. Track 3 “History” is an impressive electro-earthy piece that is quite dynamic, full of musical peaks and valleys that flow and ebbs its way through to emotional fruition. This piece is remarkably striking to the ears as well with its Alternative Rock touches and hypnotic vibe.

As the CD slowly unfolds I can hear many musical influences reminiscent of a classic Beck, Cake, Dinosaur Jr. Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie and The Flaming Lips. I would classify this music as whacked out Singer/Songwriter, Punk, Alternative Rock with an Indie College Rock flair. I can also hear experimental music with classic remnants of Dub, and Alternative Rock. The CD presents brilliant flashes of theatrical ambience and artistic perspective. You will also notice rich layers of instrumentation layered along the way full of dynamics, solo guitar, harmonies, low end beats, sonic vocals, exotic sound effects and enticing melodies.

[Ciulla] showcases impressive singing and songwriting skills throughout. His singing and guitar work are pretty solid across the board. Goetz and company have clearly proven themselves with this release. They got solid instincts.

During my initial research I discovered this band is quite the hot topic live. Playing live, Love Jupiter unleashes its cosmic fury and induces the same in their audience. It’s hard, it’s heavy, it’s rock and roll, re-imagined and reinvigorated. From heartfelt “Love Makes you Cry” and to methodical “Prince of Wales” to melodic “Snow Ghost” to rocking “Heat” this CD has something for just about everyone. The CD ends with “Temptress” the perfect finale statement for an EP of this caliber.

Though this is an impressive debut effort by Love Jupiter they need to upgrade his overall mix just a tad. Some aspects of the mix are amateurish and a bit off kilter. At the end of the day it’s a bit all over the place, however, it’s almost as if you are seeing a band play live. Perhaps that’s what they were shooting for.

Love Jupiter's latest self titled release is a compelling musical journey. Love Jupiter Rocks the house. Its strong suit is it’s amazing sonic ambience and song for song musical flow. Goetz and company get high marks from me for his brilliant musical transitions and connecting passages - nice touch. This CD will be a real joy for those listeners out there who want flowing trippy ambience to fill their sonic space peacefully and unobtrusively. This progressive somewhat trippy format makes for a great extended play experience. I recommend you just hit play, close your eyes and see where the journey takes you. This CD feels like a musical journey and will work best when experienced in that capacity. So if you’re looking for a psychedelic musical experience with sonic ambience, theatrical brilliance and a psychedelic rock aftertaste, then I highly recommend you take a listen to the latest CD from Love Jupiter right away.

""...a moving and elegiac artistic statement from start to finish.""

Brooklyn based Love Jupiter has explored the depth of the human condition through music. They released their first full length album in July 2013. Their latest 9 track release self titled CD does just that and more. So how did all this get started? In 2011, bassist Matt Adamec and drummer Bob DeRienzo found themselves in two bands with longstanding collaborators pursuing similar trajectories— “Jupiter,” an avante-power trio with singer-guitarist Michael ‘Chickie’ Ciulla, and “Of,” an ethereal power trio with singer-guitarist Mark Goetz. A merger followed, and Love Jupiter was born.

’Heavy Beautiful’ was realized from the first sessions.

It’s hard, it’s heavy, it’s rock and roll, re-imagined and reinvigorated. The result though far from a self-indulgent ego trip, rather a moving and elegiac artistic statement from start to finish. This is not your overly predictable Ramon Noodle “Sing-Songy” Pop Rock artist. Instead Goetz and the gang let it all hang out and could even be classed as a 4 genera band: Progressive Rock, Alternative Rock, Punk and even Singer-Songwriter. Colin has way too much precision and clarity to live in the shadows of overly-predictable pop music. Indeed this is clearly evident in crazy songs like “History”, “I Told You So” and amazing “Prince of Wales” which methodically ups the ante to a very respectable level of catchy musical craftsmanship and addictive melody that transcends pigeonholing.

The music is ironically also commercially viable as Love Jupiter possess a good voice for the masses and an impressive songwriting prowess to boot. Regardless of talents these cats manage to delivers a catchy rough and tumble catalogue of music that holds the attentions span of the listener very well. In a nutshell this is Radiohead meets The President of The United States of America. Love Jupiter appeals to many different types of listeners with a wide variety of musical styles mixed in. At the end of the day it packs a powerful punch and is a far cry from the current musical status quos.

Favorite Track: I Told You So

Criticism: None.

Conclusion: I would imagine in time we will hear more from this amazing band in the near future as their fanbase expands past NY. True all great solo artists have to start somewhere. Thus far this is a fast starts for Love Jupiter who have managed to carve out a marketable niche for themselves around the Brooklyn area with their amazing live shows. Thus setting themselves up for marketable success beyond that locale. For now I can honestly say this is one band that clearly gives you a musical snapshot that is highly original, unique and dare I say dangerously fun and chaotically funny in scope.

This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound and image. There’s something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever “it” is – they all seem to have “it”.

Today I listened to the latest CD from Brooklyn based 5 piece Rock alt-band “Love Jupiter” who just released their self titled CD in 2013. Venturing to their website I get the impression this is one band extremely determined, dedicated and passionate about the songwriting craft and being in a no holds barred Alternative Rock band from New York.

From start to finish this CD delivers 9 mind numbing tracks and is a very entertaining musical experience al around. It pushes hard and has weird-aggressive Punk-Alternative Rock quality to it, and even dabbles in what I call Psychotic Punk. It also reminds me of Brendon Urie, The Last Shadow Puppets, Cage the Elephant, The Young Veins, The Academy is, and Metro Station. Any fans of any of these musical styles or bands will enjoy this latest release. It’s clearly marketed for those who like a male vocal front and plating that never let’s down its guard.

I get the impression these guys Matt Adamec – Vocals, Bass, Michael “Chickie” Ciulla – Vocals, Guitar, Bob DeRienzo – Drums, and Mark Goetz – Vocals, Guitar are letting it all hang out. In other words they hit the mark remarkably well by just by being who they are musically. Favorite tracks include (History) and (I Told You So). All songs strike the perfect balance between rock, alternative rock and in your face psychotic punk. The songwriting is impressive and digs a bit deeper than the next independent band. Within each one of these pieces Love Jupiter captures something special as they bare their soul and deliver what I would call pure musical mojo. It offers much in the way of passion and compelling-thought provoking lyrical content. Some lyrics are even explicit.

The playing from all members is spot on and just makes the whole CD even more enjoyable. The vocal abilities and passion from p[Ciulla] is simply to die for. The overall vibe of the production is very defiant, rebellious and a bit comical with pockets of hope shining through.

I see Love Jupiter as a real diamond in the rough, with an amazing amount of potential. As time goes by he will no doubt hear more from them. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear their music on Prime Time Radio someday or even in a popular Video Game, Reality TV Show Series or even headlining something huge like the Warp Tour. In close most famous artists out there have “it” I’m not so sure what it but Love Jupiter has whatever “it” may be.

""...a few steps ahead many of their counterparts.""

Love Jupiter, Love Jupiter
14 Aug, 2013 Ross Barber

The debut self titled album from Brooklyn based Love Jupiter is part post punk, part prog rock, with influences that span decades. Comprising of singers/guitarists M. "Chickie" Ciulla and Mark Goetz, bassist Matt Adamec, and drummer Bob DeRienzo, Love Jupiter has produced an album which bridges the gap between genres with effective results. Love Jupiter is an aural depiction of the troubled journey of a man, and the woman who loves him. Musically, the album is as ambitious as the intention, and works on many levels.

Love Jupiter draw influence from so many artists of different genres, but instead of imitating these artists, they have taken the elements that work best and have brought them to the surface. Concept albums generally don't make for the easiest of listening as they can suffer from being overly complex at times, but the songwriting on Love Jupiter is strong and the tracks stand out in their own right as well as a whole.

Opening track "Everything Is All Right" kicks things off with a cathartic scream. Hints of Cursive and Fugazi can be heard here in what is one of the tracks that leans more towards the post-punk end of the spectrum. The tension builds and releases in all the right places, and the track feels dynamic and hard-hitting as a result. "I Told You So" is a brooding, atmospheric number which harks back to grungier times; elements of Alice in Chains and Nick Cave can be heard at times and like "Everything Is All Right" is very dynamic and a great balance between tension and release.

Evidently Love Jupiter is a band that knows the importance of light and shade in songwriting and performance, and it certainly helps to put them a few steps ahead many of their counterparts. "History" is one of the standout tracks on Love Jupiter; this is perhaps the track that best embodies what Love Jupiter is all about. The vocal delivery in the verses is part spoken and part sung, somewhat comparative to MeWithoutYou or La Dispute. "Love Makes You Cry" changes the pace, and slows things down, showing a softer side of Love Jupiter.

The second half of the album feels more progressive than the top half, with the tone changing slightly. "Snow Ghost" in particular sounds more experimental and progressive than many of the preceding tracks.

Throughout the album, there is a sense of uneasiness that broods; this works well with the album's theme and helps to connect the tracks in a somewhat subliminal way. Standout tracks include the album opener "Everything Is All Right" , "History," "Heat," and closing track "Temptress."

All in all, Love Jupiter is a strong debut that combines genres which would otherwise be completely separate and often enjoyed by different audiences. Love Jupiter merge the worlds of post punk and prog rock effectively into a compelling and enjoyable record. Successfully bridging the gaps between genres can be a challenge, but it's one that Love Jupiter has certainly risen to.

""...they manage to somehow stay within the fairway of marketability but definitely push boundaries.""

Love Jupiter – releases debut CD
URL: http://www.lovejupiter.com

4 member Brooklyn based band Love Jupiter just dropped their latest CD entitled “Love Jupiter” in 2013. Band consists of : Matt Adamec – Vocals, Bass, Michael “Chickie” Ciulla – Vocals, Guitar, Bob DeRienzo – Drums and Mark Goetz – Vocals, Guitar. To say the least the music on this CD is as unique as the band itself. Love Jupiter is a sensational, eccentric and great sounding CD.

I like the way things kick off. Immediately with Track 1 “Everything is All Right.” It delivers a really psychedelic guitars and overall sound with some amazing vocals and superfluous melodic touches her and there that really bring a special touch to the song, Right away I can hear bands like The Vines, Velvet Underground, The Hives, Klaxons, The Subways and even The Killers. Track 2 and 3 “I Told you so” and “History” really give you the impression as if you’re listening to a 70’s band with a more modern-day twist. The musical flow of both tracks are eccentric, bold and will push you hard. Not just musically but also lyrically.

I get the impression these lads are real risk takers with their music. Despite this they manage to somehow stay within the fairway of marketability but definitely push boundaries. These are compliments by the way. The musicianship follows down the same path offering up much in the way of a 4 piece rock band. Built on frenzious, harmonic notes that are plucked from the heavens, and as passionate, provocative narratives unfold.

From beginning to end this CD keeps the same party mood while maintaining a mysterious funked-out feel. As for [Ciulla] vocally he delivers emotionally invigorating performance that will reminds you of a modern day David Bowie or even Tom Waits. His high pitch, sexy vocals blends with the great guitar riffs and musical ambience well.

Criticism: I wouldn’t recommend all tracks on their next release be this exotic and over the top. In conclusion, this is one release that will bring back memories of a not so distant age where good rock music rocked the airwaves and possessed a more organic and simplistic feel. All the while inspiring people with amazing artistic energy to get people thinking, singing, dancing and even helped them forget their troubles. To me Love Jupiter was a drug. It’s hard, it’s heavy, it’s rock and roll, re-imagined and reinvigorated. It’s Love Jupiter.

Final Score: 9/10 Stars

LOVE JUPITER – Self titled (2013)

by Michael Keith edited by Mindy McCall. Apporved by Cyrus Rhodes.

Overall Rating: 4.5/5

About the Artist: 4 members: Love Jupiter,Brooklynbased band, formed in 2011 is comprised of singer/guitarist M. “Chickie” Ciulla, singer/guitarist, Mark Goetz, bassist Matt Adamec and drummer Bob DeRienzo.

Citing from their bio: Love Jupiter takes its turn on prog-rock idiom. Influences span decades. Fugazi, Cave. Their self-titled debut album is a sonic representation of the fraught journey of the protagonist man and the woman who loves him. Rock reinvigorated.

Review: I have to say I was extremely impressed with the opening 3 tracks “Everything Is All Right”, “I Told you So” and “History.” They made quite the first impression with me. Each one possessed my full unadulterated attention. To be honest: I expected cheesy Sonic rock from the same cloth as say a Jason Mraz, Muse, or Rob Thomas. Not that there’s anything wrong with those guys but I, along with millions of other people, just want to hear something new and different. Something that will really shake our tree. Really I’m up for anything at this point. What I discovered blew me out of my chair.

This whole CD by Love Jupiter is a breath of fresh air and is full of what I would call rocked out energy witha UK rock-style vibe that appeals to so many different senses on so many different levels. It kind of reminds me of Franz Ferdinand, Artic Monkeys, Miles Kane and Kaiser Chiefs. On the other side of the sonic spectrum I can hear White Lies, The Fratellis, and even Kasabian.

What I really like about Love Jupiter is there is no attempt to deliver what I call over the top pop rock. Cheezy music with a handsome face via top flight sampling, cookie cutter songwriting via a mix that sounds more like a commercial than a piece of music. Love Jupiter also appeals to many different kinds of rockers. Whatever kind of listening level you’re on – Punk, Alternative Rock, Rock, Americana some will identify with things while others will not. Whether it’s musically, lyrically, inspirationally, emotionally, spiritually – if you feel like music is taking us in the wrong direction than rest assured Love Jupiter is taking us back in the right direction with this CD.

Criticism: There needs to be a few more songs on this CD. Sorry but 9 tracks is a bit short when compared to what’s out there right now. Top Tracks: Wake up te Kids, I Told You So, Love Makes you Cry.

Final Word: Love Jupiter affirmed my faith in good music again. They represents all that is magical, real and good in music and their latest CD delivers a highly passionate 9 track catalog via rock solid playing, amazing songwriting and music that covers all the bases: Rock, Pop and Psychedelic-Funked-Americana.

""What I heard put smile on my face. ""

Over the years we’ve seen rock, pop, and even hard rock slowly erode into over-commercialized, corporate puppet shows providing music that is extremely sing songy, predictable, popish and highly corporate. I hereby call this new breed of music “Poser Rock” and I want to personally thank all the corporate giants for successfully transforming “Sex Drugs & Rock n’ Roll” into “Yoga, Vitamins and Nikelback” Of course millions of musical lemmings don’t know the difference and trust me when I say not everyone is entertained. Talking to many music fans out there the response is overwhelming. Give me something new, something fresh, and something real.

Love Jupiter are: Band members: Chick Ciulla-vox, guitars, Mark Goetz-guitars, vox, Matt Adamec-bass, Bob DeRienzo-percussion.

So across my desk slides the new 5 songs EP by New York based 4 piece Alternative Rock band Love Jupiter entitled “1967” During my initial research and a first listen to this 5 track offering, there were a few thing I noticed. Their recordings showcase the eclectic songwriting approach: from upbeat, musically-involved pieces to simple, minimalist moody tracks to unusual studio creations all contained therein. These recent recording presents an interesting, melodically-challenging, literate (even uniquely tasteful) collection of songs. It may not be the simplest collection to digest, but its rewards are manifold, and at the center of each piece and every arrangement is an effective, if often cryptic and somewhat moody melodies.

The “1967” EP finds a band like Love Jupiter channeling (rather than being inspired or influenced by) a wide array popular-music-history’s critically renowned underground heroes: The Twilight Singers, The Gutter Twin, Buffalo Tom, and Television. What I heard put a smile on my face. It’s an impressive snapshot that delivers solid songwriting with a nice alternative rock feel. Lead vocalist Ciulla is one of the best singers I’ve heard in quite some time. He really lets loose behind the glass and lets her rip. You will also hear a side of Alternative Rock that is somewhat progressive in nature. If you like the above bands you should definitely check out this EP. My favorite track is probably “Castle”. Another notable standout track is “I Can’t Touch You.”. 1967 EP by Love Jupiter is invigorating. Invigorating in the sense that it will lift your spirits, and give you a sense of hope that rock is not officially pronounced dead yet. This 5 Track EP is a solid release with many solid grooves with a guitar driven sound and entertaining sometimes dark vibe. At the end of the day it’s an EP that gives us a fresh glimpse at an amazing artist and takes us back a few years – before everything started sounding like – well like NIKELBACK.

""...wonderfully simple but masterful in their overall arrangements.""

Love Jupiter are an Alternative Rock band that come to us from the New york. Band members include: singer/guitarist M. “Chickie” Ciulla, singer/guitarist, Mark Goetz, bassist Richard Delfino and drummer Bob DeRienzo.

Their sound embraces the passion and feral energy of such post-punk heavies as Sonic Youth, Fugazi and The Afghan Whigs while looking into the Heavens and hitching their rockets to such ethereal bodies as Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine. In this way, Love Jupiter tells their stories of love, loss, favor and fury against an epic, cosmic backdrop. The result is both Heavy and Beautiful; rock and roll, re-imagined, and reinvigorated. Its sophomore release, 1967 marks a milestone in the evolution of the men of Love Jupiter.

Let me start by saying “1967” is a musical teaser that certainly doesn’t disappoint. This is one band that brings to the table effective songwriting via a highly passionate musical delivery. This meshed with a one in a million Alternative-Punk-Rock hybrid sound and songwriting make for an effective combination. Love Jupiter even touch on Alternative Punk Rock and Hard Rock with hints of Jam Band, and Melodic Prog-Rock. Goetz for the most part sings in the first person assuming different personas, jumps to third person omniscient in a moment, audaciously uses the editorial/royal and references the past, present, and future within the space of the musical landscape. There are even glimmers of hope amongst some of the relatively dark subject matter. The songs are brief but dense both in instrumentation and lyrical content and impart live room energy and disciplined attack. All songs on this EP are wonderfully simple but masterful in their overall arrangements. Music reminded me of a cross between Icehouse, Interpol and even Bloc Party. Better yet – this band reminds me of a modern day Nirvana. This EP is quite entertaining and brutally honest overall with an amazing vocal front of [Ciulla] who is quite the power singer. All songs are amazing via well-crafted pieces and top tiered musicianship. Favorite songs are: I can’t Touch You and Andrea Doria. There are some incredible moments on this EP, many of which personify the human experience which gives a band like Love Jupiter an amazing feel in its attempt to connect with a cult fanbase locally or abroad.

Love Jupiter have proven themselves with this latest release. They are clearly an up and coming talent around NY area and all 4 members are clearly capable songwriters, artists and musicians. I must admit “1967” by “Love Jupiter” sucked me in like a powerful drug and refused to let go long after the EP was over. This usually indicates he is something special about the artist or band in question. Thus deserving praise, recognition and musical fame at the international level.

""...a fun yet unpredictable listen.""

Last year Love Jupiter released their self-titled album Love Jupiter, which relied on distorted guitars, crashing drums and cathartic singing to bring you a heavy rock album that paid homage to some of the dinosaurs of rock from the past and present. The band is building upon that momentum and recently released 1967, which is a continuation of the narrative of  Love Jupiter’s debut album. According to the band “it’s the story of one man - The Man in Flames - a ghost tied to this earth as he traverses time and space on a mission to reunite with his beloved.”

After listening to 1967  I’d have to say that it’s an extremely dynamic release. Throughout the twenty minutes of music the band goes from parts that rely on softly sung passages with even softer guitars to soaring heights of the band working in unison to bring you to climaxes that cease to end.

Perhaps the best example of this is the first song “Andrea Doria,” which starts with a sole clean guitar progression before the band explodes with power. Without much warning the band quickly simmers down until they emerge once again but this time even more triumphant. The band starts to ride a hypnotic wave of distortion and vocal harmonies before coming to a close.

“I Can’t Touch” is another dynamic song, which does not adhere to a simple verse-chorus-verse structure. The band weaves in and out of parts strategically restraining certain instruments. This song displays the band’s inventive nature and willingness to experiment. “Castle” rides a more consistent wave but the band employs what sounds like a backward type effect that really works with the song while “Boom 1967”  is more like an experimental sound piece than  a song. They close with the most straightforward song on the album called “Love A Man.” It’s a solid rock song and I was glad they ended with a memorable impression.

Love Jupiter isn't your standard rock band. They are mixing things up on 1967, which makes for a fun yet unpredictable listen.

"...impossible to deny the superiority of this band.""

(New York) 4 piece Love Jupiter just released their latest EP entitled “1967” in 2014. The music of Love Jupiter strikes a chord at the core of what made 90’s hard rock so mesmerizing, fusing it with new frenetic style and creative exploration. Love Jupiter is: Matt Adamec – Vocals, Bass, Michael “Chickie” Ciulla – Vocals, Guitar, Bob DeRienzo – Drums, and Mark Goetz – Vocals, Guitar.

This is such a complex, amazing and dramatic CD what else can I say in the end? In fact it’s more than amazing and dramatic, it’s also extremely suspenseful and has a sad but true overtone. It has a very quirky-dark quality to it as well The intro track “Andrea Doria” and “I Can’t Touch You” gives you the impression as if you were in some kind of motion picture with its musical presence. The really vivid, yet emotional charged guitar/synth evolves into a great opener reminiscent of acts such as Joy Division, Green River, Screaming Trees and Pogada, John Linneli, Lemon Demon and Jonathan Coulton.

Love Jupiter headed up by vocalist Mark Goetz has a really strong tonal foundation coupled with heavy rhythms, intense sound effects and guitars with spaced out goodness vocally. The vocals from Goetz are well executed and the lyrics are to say the least interesting. It’s pretty diverse. Without a doubt, it’s impossible to deny the superiority of this band. The drums and the bass lines just help push the EP/album forward, and the vibe, if you pay attention carefully, has a really odd, mysterious, creepy, spacey sort of vibe to it. As the EP evolves it showcases some dramatic combinations of rhythm guitar fused with Prog Rock overtones on tracks like the masterpiece “I Can’t Touch You” and mysterious “”Boom! 1967,” The live rocked out feel have an important role on all pieces as well. On many these tracks Goetz is clearly in charge of giving the mood assigned to each song. The addition of the well partitioned segments gives many song a hard rock touch.

My favorite track is by far “I Can’t Touch You.”

In conclusion, here’s a CD/EP release I’ve been dying to get my hands on for a while. I was just unable to stumble across it until today. It’s also very subliminal, and a grand concept that’s sure to get many peoples attention. From the production level, to the musicianship involved, “1967” by Love Jupiter” delivers in grand fashion.  With the advent of this artist/band to mainstream metal, with their superlative signature sound and trademark moniker, everything here works terrifically well. It will keep you in a state of positive wonderment from start to finish.

CD REVIEW:

Brooklyn based Jove Jupiter just released their latest EP (1967) in 2014. The EP is a continuation of a narrative that befell several men inhabiting Love Jupiter’s debut album (Love Jupiter), but it’s the story of one man - The Man in Flames - a ghost tied to this earth as he traverses time and space on a mission to reunite with his beloved. Dare we say, it’s a concept EP. Band members include: Chick Ciulla-vox, guitars, Mark Goetz-guitars, vox, Matt Adamec-bass, Bob DeRienzo-percussion. Tidy, neat, and compact, 1967 is a distilled storyline, an artifact from a bygone era, and a perfect release for our times.

First up Track 1 “Andrea Doria” serves up an enticing guitar ridden groove meshed against hypnotic lyrical content, strong melody and impressive heartfelt vocals from Goetz. This intro track sets the tone rather well for an unpredictable yet rocking EP like this - I especially like the melodic finale of this track. Track 2 “I Can’t Touch You” shifts gears a bit with it's methodical intro that gradually builds into a passionate yet psychedelic rock statement complete with impassioned vocal presence and a dynamic musical flow that is borderline brilliant. Track 3 “Castle” serves up yet another superb track with thought provoking lyrical content that floes and ebbs it's way through to emotional fruition. As these songs slowly unfolded I could hear many musical influences reminiscent of classic Radiohead, Beck, Franz Ferdinand, and Death Cab for Cutie. I would classify this music as Alternative Rock, with a slight aftertaste of Progressive Hard Rock and trippy Psychedelic ambinence that is unpredictable and emotional. The songs themselves are addictive, eccentric, fascinating, and very interesting - all reflections of the band. One can't notice intellectual, passionate and powerful subject matter delivered between the spoken word, with a heavy dose of raw truth and bi-polar vocal emotion. The musicianship from all members are rock solid across the board. Goetz and company showcase rock solid production instants throughout. Besides the 4 piece standard you will also notice things like thick low end beats and rhythms, impressive sampling, synthetic sound effects and lush harmonies. Goetz is an accomplished vocalist, guitarist within his own right and he is no doubt the musical mastermind behind this band.  Goetz has amazing power, control and intensity throughout. Equally as impressive is the how he makes each song his own making a distinct and strong (singer to listener) vocal connection. Goetz has an appealing timber and crisp, sharp baritone and takes many impressive vocal risks throughout each song.  His voice sounds in the vein of Maynard Keenan (Tool) and Greg Gulli (The Afghan Whigs.) The songs themselves are reckless, progressive and packed to the hilt with raw intensity and lyrical content straight from the neurotic psyche.  Goetz's vocal style works with respect to this style of music with its stereotypical jagged edge delivery. What I like most about the music is its intensity, intellectualism and consistency. All songs are short and sweet musical experiences, never too winded, never to short. All engineering aspects check out. CD possesses solid low end punch and crystal clear high end clarity. To hypnotic “Castle” to psychedelic “Boom! (1967) this EP has something for just about everyone. During my initial research I discovered this band to be a very hot topic live around the region - another big factor to consider when evaluating a band.

I wish there were a few more solo segments present. I also wish I hear a few more blood curling screams from Goetz.  I also typically deduct 1 star for EP releases. The full-length release is a more complete snapshot to judge an artist or band by at any given point in time.

In close “1967” by Love Jupiter is a highly original, somewhat unpredictable and fascinating musical experience from start to finish. Although it's primarily alt-rock based you never know what's coming round the corner with this band. The music is fresh and highly entertaining. Its strong suit – its amazing vocal presence and impressive songwriting finesse by this band led by Mark Goetz. The songs are extremely melodic, passionate, and captivating and somewhat dark and unpredictable. All these songs have a ring of truth to them . Each song possesses a unique personality, flair, and signature groove. Love Jupiter are a surging New York band for many reasons armed with a brilliant perspective and amazing voice to inspire your vivid imagination. Need I say more?

""I was instantly hooked...""

Love Jupiter is back with their 2014 release “1967”. Overall Internet presence is slowly taking shape as I learned a lot about them even before I hit play. “1967” marks the band’s second release and follows the same format as last year’s critically acclaimed debut “Love Jupiter”. Influences include: The Afghan Whigs, Fugazi, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Cocteau Twins, Failure.

REVERBNATION:http://www.reverbnation.com/LoveJupiter

Matt Adamec – Vocals, Bass Michael “Chickie” Ciulla – Vocals, Guitar Bob DeRienzo – Drums Mark Goetz – Vocals, Guitar

The EP hits the deck running with a series of strong powerhouse songs “Andrea Doria”,“I Can’t Touch You” and ”Castle.” These three tracks are somewhat reminiscent of Soundgarden, White Lies, The Wombats, Blur, Peter Murphy. The guitar/drums/voice combo are well paired with his songwriting skills makes for a rather strong culmination of skill sets. The feel of these 3 openers are dreamy yet thick nonetheless. Lyrics and music are very well thought out/put together. I was instantly hooked to keep listening. Subject matter is equally tied to musical setting and delivers well-crafted vocals and emotional tranquility. Equal parts heartfelt emotion and soaring guitars, [Love Jupiter] paints images in creative, yet relatable ways. It’s evident to the ear that much time has been invested in crafting each song to stand on its own, separate from the next. The overall mix dynamics offer everything you would expect. Track 4 “Boom! (1967) is an interesting track. All songs refuse to sound like a bare-bones PC recording, or even a vintage live performance. This contributes to the overall impact of the song. As I made my way from start to finish, there is a near-extreme tonality that was definitely palpable but unorthodox in nature for the vocals. However the voice of [Ciulla] is brilliantly unique in this regard. God broke the mold when they made his vocal cords. All songs moved well – constant and similar in consonance. Most certainly Goetz and company have a knack for crafting imagery and instrumentation to complement his vocal style, which made it so surprising there was such little use of minor and dissonance. Vocally I think he is for everyone – however if you can appreciate art for art’s sake he’s close to groundbreaking. Though not overly distracting, his voice was indeed likeable but will fail to completely fit within a mainstream audience.

Overall, this is a captivating glance at Love Jupiter.” It was an absolute pleasure to get into the mindset of a somewhat frustrated urbanite like Goetz, and listen to what he was trying to tell the world. Some pieces will hold a place in my fascinating and dark play list – when I really need it. Goetz I feel is a real master at bringing together all the flavors of many different musical styles and genres. All the while making all of them his own. He is armed with great writing, a brilliant creative mindset, and powerful message no doubt many will agree with.

The music of Love Jupiter is highly contagious and will no doubt evolve over time into something more professional. All of this makes Love Jupiter a welcomed and unique band in an overly cut-and-paste industry.
