As if Bruno Mars’ new single Locked Out of Heaven couldn’t get any hotter this New Jersey pop/rock band has brought it to another level. The boys of LOVELECTRIC, Doug Rockwell, Jordan Sciabica, Mike DiGuglielmo, and Jared Leibowitz, not only killed this cover but also got appraisal from Bruno Mars himself according to PowerFM.com.

Besides being talented and great looking, these boys are genius. They had to have known what this song would do. Every girl’s fantasy came true when they envisioned a hot guy serenading them with “your sex takes me to paradise.” They’ve just raised the bar on girls’ expectations everywhere.
This video was released shortly before Bruno Mars’ song was aired on the Victoria Secret Fashion Show. When asked about the video the lovely Jordan Sciabica from Lovelectric said “We love Bruno Mars, he’s got unbelievable talent. We just tried to do something different with an already brilliant song, change up the pace a bit. We always try to do it different, you gotta make a name for yourself in this industry. We just do what we love and hope you love it too.” At the rate these boys are going maybe next year we’ll see an appearance with Mr. Mars.

Lovelectric’s official debut EP “An Ovation for Innovation” is due to release New Years Day in stores and online through ITunes. Their explosive new flavor has brought attention back to a tired genre and has gotten their video several thousand views in the short time that it has been on the web.

The burgeoning Rock collective that is Lovelectric recently dropped its reworking of the 2012 Swedish House Mafia cut “Don’t worry Child”. The cover exhibits the outfit’s affinity for walls of jubilant axe riffing and melodious lyricism that transformed this club quaking composition into an anthem made for the Skate And Surf main stage. We meet again my local music lovers. This week I am going to dedicate my article to a band on the rise from New Jersey that has great drive and determination. Although they may not play my favorite genre of music, that doesn’t matter one iota. I like to spotlight groups that live, sleep, and breathe music as their way of survival and escape. After all, I could never hate on any musician. Anyway, if you’re looking for enjoyable music with catchy hooks, gifted performers and vocalists who can actually sing well, this is an act you need to check out. I never want to be one of those people that unwillingly push music on others, but simply bring talent to the limelight where I can assist. Allow me to introduce to you, Lovelectric.

I was introduced to these guys a few years back as a different group, The Doug Rockwell Band. Well, to some of them at least. With lineup changes, a brand spanking new name and image, a fresh group was formed: Lovelectric. They were recently one of the bands I coached during The Break Contest competition, and they really impressed me. They got to play the Skate & Surf Festival, deservingly so. Having only been an act since November 2012, they already have a great EP under their belts, An Ovation For Innovation.

The boys and I would both describe them as power pop-rock. Although my tastes have somewhat shifted away from pop punk into other styles as I’ve grown older—older, not old—I still find myself back into the genre every now and then when I find something worth indulging into. Upon first listen of their EP, I created a picture in my mind that their music is, for lack of a better word, really fun. No real tearjerkers on here, but great for the times when you just want to listen to something light to lend a hand in picking up your day. It’s basically firmed with catchy melodies that will stay in your head whether you want them to or not.

When you hear their recordings, fans of harder music may see them as airing too much angst to be appreciated by an older audience, but it’s actually the complete opposite. They have a found a way to create their own musical personality that is actually very dissimilar from that pervading most of the youth pop-rock industry at the moment. What I mean by this is they don’t bleed originality, yet still somehow manage to really stand out. Their track “My Own Road” almost sums up this theory I am creating. Maybe the reason is that they’re actually really talented musicians, as I sit here holding out any bashing of other famous groups. In fact, in my personal opinion, they are far better than many bands in this genre that people across the world seem to glorify. To put it simply, groups can sometimes get molded into that description of teenage hysteria, trying their hardest to make a mark on a world that will forget them in a minute or two. Lovelectric, however, definitely have more than a minute to try. It may not be your thing, but they have a high upside. Many say the style has been done before, but it’s still nice to hear some pop-rock that isn’t played obsessively over the radio.

When I first saw them live, it was almost like they were forcing me to fall in love, and I was more than willing to fall. With an even balance of jaded heartbreak and love-filled riffs, Doug Rockwell’s vocals really shine on stage. The vocals are somewhat pitch-perfect as is the instrument tuning, making the chords more emotive. Their intrepidly catchy dance hooks and lyrics flawlessly capture what it feels like to be a teenager in today’s culture. Although there were a lot of young girls swooning, it’s far from bubblegum; it’s modern, funky, danceable, and sexy. Honestly, it can’t be healthy to be that angry and bitter guy all the time, so if Rockwell wants to drone melancholy love songs, I’m good with that.

If you wanted to throw them into the comparable lion’s den, they would maybe get tagged with bands like The White Tie Affair, Cartel, Boys Like Girls, and more. You want to know what they do really well? They have managed to put out an enjoyable set of songs that may just crossover into guilty pleasure territory for many of you. Watching people sing along to their tracks put a huge smile on my face, for they know how to get a crowd moving. They completely owned the Encore Event Center in Freehold, and even if you hadn’t gone there to see them, you left their knowing who they were. The single “Battle Scars” really gets the girls crazy; keep that in mind so you know where to stand at their show. After all, each and every one of us still has youth inside somewhere. The live set is just as good as their recordings, if not better, which always leaves an impression in my book.

Lovelectric have announced a ton of show dates, have new music in the works, and are really getting the wheels turning in their careers. It is hard to pinpoint exactly who North Jersey pop-rock outfit, Lovelectric, sound like. There are hints of new millennium pop-punk, moments reminiscent of 1990s post-grunge, and hints of neon-glossy pop. Yet, figuring out a label for their sound couldn’t be any further from Lovelectric’s consciousness. The quartet brings a DIY mantra to their brand of pop music that is both unique and refreshing. Oh to be young and from Jersey.

Lovelectric is a fresh-faced quartet that plays emotive pop-rock with a hand firmly ensconced in live theatre (think Rent, Spring Awakening, etc.) and another in hook-laden radio fodder. There's a slight veer towards pop-punk but really the songs have a gooey rock n' roll heart. Vocalist Doug Rockwell is far from perfect but does well to stay within his means. Well, sometimes.

"I Am" is rollicking, punchy and most definitely a hip-shaker, while the brooding "My Very Own Road" is bursting, heart-on-sleeve simplicity. At this points its obvious the band knows its way around a song. Well-executed and chock full of accessible attributes (big hooks, woah-oh singsongs, brevity) there's little to turn away from. The EP dips a bit on "Live Again" a self-indulgent effort that finds Rockwell straining and the guitars ratcheting it up a bit higher than necessary. Every band wants a chance to shred and that's fine, but given that "Live Again" should have been placed later on the disc.

The band is back in groove on the punchy "Battle Scars," a three minute slab of jittery hook-driven rock. Like its predecessors, the song itself is simple, to-the-point and not exactly novel. But then again Lovelectric appear more interested in keeping audiences shaking and grooving than thinking and studying. As if cognizant of this, Rockwell and Co. offer up "The Edge," an angst-ridden tour through paranoia, fatigue and frayed edges. There are times the song feels like a huge step forward and others an aimless mess.

For all their missteps the quartet returns on the zesty "New Time Comin'," a piano-laden affair that swerves with charisma and confidence. And it is in those brief three minutes that Lovelectric makes the most sense. Anchored by horns and a sun-drenched chorus, Rockwell and Co. seem to have hit a stride that points towards something promising. The problem with An Ovation for Innovation is when the band steers clear of tracks like "New Time Comin'" and "I Am."

For anyone who has doubts that An Ovation for Innovation is not a pop record, the quartet included not one but three bonus tracks, all of which are successful contemporary pop songs. The first is Cher Lloyd's "Express Yourself" and is arguably one of the strongest of the three. The second is Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven," which actually finds the band settling into a refined groove that actually works quite well. The latter, a mashup of Madonna's "Express Yourself" and Lady GaGa's "Born this Way," is far too ambitious and far too underwhelming to carry the band forward.

Being that they are a young band and this EP is their debut offering, there's reason enough to think that on the next effort they can turn it around. As it stands now, the music itself is not entirely thought-provoking, nuanced or artsy, but then again the audience they're chasing down has never wanted said attributes in their songs. Whether the band deserves kudos for knowing their audience remains to be seen. For now this is an EP with three terrific songs and three average songs. Changing that 3:3 ratio to 6:0 is what will drive Lovelectric to success in the months and years to come. They have the assets to do it, now it's just a matter of pulling it off. - Absolutepunk

I can already tell it’s going to be an amazing year for NY/NJ pop-rock act, Lovelectric. In fact, had their new EP, An Ovation For Innovation, been released any earlier, it would’ve easily made the top of my Best of 2012 list for UTG, hands down. That said, An Ovation For Innovation isn’t full of the generic pop-rock of today. It’s big. It’s catchy. It has flair. And it’s awesome.

From the get-go, the EP’s opening track, “I Am”, drew me in. As soon as the guitars hit that one opening chord, it was clear what I was getting into, and I wasn’t mad about it. Once the song truly opened up, the feel-good vibe from the song’s verses can only be outdone by its gigantic powerpop choruses sung by the band’s vocalist/guitarist, Doug Rockwell (ex – Someday Never). Oh. And there’s an amazing guitar solo? In a pop-rock song? Yeah. This EP already rules.

Following “I Am”, Lovelectric doesn’t let up. With memorable lyrics that are easily relatable, ”My Very Own Road” is an open and even inspirational track. The guitars are huge and harmonized, giving the track that big 80's rock sound. The call-and-response style chorus is perfect for sing-alongs. And what’s this? Another ridiculous guitar solo? I’m sold.

The band’s single, “Live Again”, is a bit more straightforward than its predecessors. However, it’s still insanely catchy, staying true to Lovelectric’s brand of pop-rock thus far. Plus, at one point, Rockwell gives us a taste of what his pipes can really do as he belts out a wonderfully performed bridge before yet another great guitar solo. Following “Live Again”, “Battle Scars” is possibly the catchiest track on the entire EP. The song is also jammed with bouncy melodies, great guitar work and fun dynamics.

“The Edge” is an angsty track bursting with musical explosions. This song has a lot of aspects to it, from somewhat dark and mysterious to fun and exciting. Most of all, I love the guitar work in this song. Intricate guitar riffs line up perfectly to create fun harmonies, and I love harmonies (as most music enthusiasts do). And yep, you guessed it, there’s another great guitar solo.

The final track on the album, “New Time Comin’” has to be my favorite track on the album. This track adds one key element that I wish Lovelectric would have run with throughout the duration of An Ovation To Innovation — horns. The track opens up with a bright, vibrant horn section, giving the song a Blues Brothers type of vibe. It’s catchy. It’s clever. It’s fun. And, like the rest of the album, it makes me want to dance. If you’re going to check out An Ovation For Innovation, I’d recommend listening to this song first.

Personally speaking, An Ovation For Innovation is the pop-rock EP I’ve been waiting to hear for years. Some of today’s more seasoned pros could take some serious pointers from Lovelectric. Everything they’ve accomplished with this EP shows their determination to create one of the best pop-rock EPs of the year…and it’s only January. The vocals, the guitar work, the musicianship, everything fits together to form one exceptionally well-produced piece of pop-rock gold. Seriously, every song on An Ovation For Innovation is radio ready. As far as I can tell, it won’t be long before Lovelectric’s name is plastered on posters all over the country. Lovelectric is spearheaded by lead singer/guitarist Doug Rockwell, an experienced musician, audio engineer, and producer in the tri-state area. Founded as “The Doug Rockwell Band” in 2010, Lovelectric is the product of hard work and dedication from musicians who genuinely love to play their instruments.

The band recently put out their first EP entitled An Ovation For Innovation which features six explosively catchy rock/pop songs. It’s hard to tell that this is the band’s first EP as it sounds perfectly executed, recorded, engineered, and produced (a testament to the band as well as Doug Rockwell’s audio engineering and producing skills). The opening track “I Am,” sets the pace for what is an upbeat and cheerful album topped with rich vocal harmonies. Also, a shout-out to Mike DiGuglielmo on drums is deserved as he really provides a solid backbone for the sound Lovelectric is striving to achieve. “Live Again,” is a solid track that starts off slow but picks up and packs everything from gang vocals to a very catchy chorus, a half-time drum beat/guitar solo segment, and a nice little acoustic guitar part tucked in near the ending.
