"Lovestruck Robot Explodes and Intrigues with 'I Wanna Be in a Band'"

Adela, the defiant daughter in Federico Garcia Lorca’s play The House of Bernarda Alba, illustrates the essence of focused lust in her line, “Gazing into his eyes I feel as if I’m slowly drinking his blood.” Such consuming intensity for another is rare in today’s experience, as lust is spread thin and far in this our pornified culture. Desire doesn’t appreciate appropriately in tandem with codified mannerful protocol in the fading practice of courtship. Felt affection fails to build, instead splayed and splattered over media outlets, all which sport a slight drip at their frames’ edge. In a time of too much honey unbalanced by the refines of vinegar,
Lovestruck Robot saves itself from the superficialization of its seductive mission by working diligently on detail in I Wanna Be In A Band. Singer Jace Magee’s Timberlakian way of vocally androgynous titillation threatens the listener with the spew of some burst bodily fluid, but instead replaces the danger with proverbial talk of blown circuits and digital lips. Lovestruck Robot lives up to its promotional claim of being “musically promiscuous”, an ingenious description of a band full of vocal, creative, and celebritic talent.
The opener “Under Your Control” introduces the band’s crazy-unique-fun persona, with Lenny Kravitz-influenced instrumentation and vocals inspired by he who might “think you’re cooler than me.” “Just Can’t Say” features the tired theme of the male lover who can’t communicate, exploiting the curious female bent towards being stimulated at the failure to attain from her man a lifelong commitment. “I Wanna Be In A Band” is slightly ska, with an 80s white urban rock and early MTV feel. A satiric song of idealized fame and entertainer success, “I Wanna Be In A Band” is the embodiment of all things pop. Though Lovestruck Robot might do well to abbreviate its stock transitional whoo-hoo’s and yeah-yeah’s, “I Wanna Be In A Band” is a well-chosen splash song for the band, cool and clever with rapper bragadaccio and an engaging accompanying video.

True blue keys that would please the likes of Bob James begin “Colorful”, which hits a sunshiny groove. Intricate and sensitive wordplay sung with a Marvin Gaye croon mix successfully with the azure to generate a jazzscape that Lovestruck Robot should explore more in depth in their mature years. Magee impresses a Timberlake lisp with accuracy in “The Show”, which starts with Flock of Seagullic guitar reverberations, then jumps on a swing into lascivious suggestion. Magee is a bit extreme on this one, crossing the line between true desire and sexiness-for-sexiness sake, vocals salivating slurpily. Magee sings of “getting in the mood”, hoping to give rise to a certain froginess in the female clubber.

“Sauce Girls” mixes Kravitz Rock with R&B lyricism, somehow resulting in something a little too New Kids On The Block. Its elements never emulsify to where the song can progress with unified body. DisneyRadio instrumentation is oddly paired with On Demand After Dark lyricality, and the intro to “Sauce Girls” sounds like fellas at a drunk girl fetish convention. The song goes on to prove itself a marketing device for Petrone-pushing bars, cheering their effeminate clientele on to achieve “sauced” status.

Orlando (the band’s base) ain’t Miami, but “Dance Song” borrows a Latino shake from the Cop Show Capitol. The song is correctly and generically titled, serving functionally, strictly, and effectively to make the party move.

“I Wanna Be In A Band” is strongest, but “Special Girl” is most special. A dynamic song with soul and fancy, “Special Girl” explodes throughout with fantastic production, as if Earth, Wind, and Fire reigned in its rhythm tight, sped it up, then released soaring fireworks effects on the listener with crafted measure. A dazzling chorus rides upon partnered synthesizer/guitar riffs, and a rapping interlude is the perfect touch delivered with perfect execution. The song takes delicate care of a tender and bold-strong balance that intrigues.

“The Other Side” combines the Motown qualities of stately proclamations of love and prophetic romanticism. The song exhibits that pillar label’s fusion of R&B musicality and Gospel imagery, adopting also the Motown method of the snare-only chorus. Magee is speaking in intelligible tongues with the lyrics, “The other side, of the mountain, is a river, that flows into the future/Of another place, of another world, that’s turning without you.” The song is surreal in that Magee sounds assured in singing these mysterious lyrics, though he probably couldn’t tell you exactly what they mean, like Ezekiel speaking of multi-winged, multi-faced, multi-eyed monsters that prophecy something unknowable but inevitable. Magee continues with alluring quasi-humanitarian preaching: “How do you love today? Are you breathless? Are you hopeless? How do you touch today? Are you soft or in shame?” The mysticism of the lyrics in “The Other Side” make them the best on - Indie Music Reviewer

"Jango Band of the Month- Lovestruck Robot"

Meet Lovestruck Robot, a promising band from Orlando, FL. They recently won the Florida Grammy Showcase, and just performed at the honorable "A Night of Hope Gala". Things are definitely looking up for these guys, and in February they're Jango's Band of The Month. Here is the interview, enjoy!

Describe Lovestruck Robot's sound in one sentence?
Put Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, Lenny Kravitz, and Outkast in a blender and you will get a Lovestruck Robot smoothie.

When was Lovestruck Robot formed and where?
February of 2011 in Orlando, FL

Name three people who have influenced your music, and tell us why? Living or dead.
Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Sting.

How do you connect with fans and get them involved in your music?
We do a lot of live shows!! Social networking is also huge. We are constantly interacting with fans and announcing new shows and projects on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. Internet radio like Jango is also a huge avenue to connect with fans. We also like to have random contests where we give away free tickets, t-shirts, CD's, etc.

What do you like most about Jango Airplay?
Jango Airplay is amazing. Unlike a lot of other internet radio entities, fans can interact with the artists and leave comments. Plus, our songs are played along with a lot of great successful acts that our music is actually compared to, which makes it easier for us to get heard and extend our fan base to people who might not otherwise ever have heard of Lovestruck Robot.

Is there any recent project you'd like to share with us? Tell us about it.
We recently won the 2011 Florida Grammy Showcase here in Orlando, FL. We showcased two songs, "Do It All for the Dream," and "I Wanna Be in a Band." We shared the stage with several other up and coming acts and ended up winning the grand prize. We won $25,000 in cash and prizes and received a lot of great endorsements. Coming out as a new band with a new record and getting that kind of industry notoriety means a lot to us!

Are you guys playing live and do you have any shows coming up soon?
Yes!! We are so stoked and honored to be asked to perform at this year's annual "A Night of Hope Gala" here in Orlando, FL on February 18. It is a huge charity event to benefit "The Faine House" put on by Jeff Faine (C for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). It is a great cause and aids in finding homes for neglected and homeless adolescents. We will also be performing live at the Havana Club in Atlanta, GA on Friday, February 24 at 8 pm and Saturday, February 25 at 8 pm.

"Booked Promotions Second Anniversary"

Booked Promotions celebrated their second anniversary with a stellar line-up of local Orlando bands at the BackBooth last Friday night. Any show featuring just one of these bands would be an aural treat, but with all of them together on the same bill, Judy Tribune, The Jonnie Morgan Band, Lovestruck Robot, SMB Project and Savannah, it was a can’t miss show for live music fans.

The first band up, Judy Tribune set the bar pretty high for the night with their edgy, alternative music. The band members, Rick Garitta (guitars/vocals), Kris Ramsay (drums) and new daddy Kyle Lavery (bass) and, get comfortable onstage, playing in their bare feet. The Orlando band’s sweeping jams have a freestyle feel, with the music seemingly freely flowing more by feel than design. Their set included several songs from their debut CD “…Takes the Stage.”

Next up was Orlando’s Jonnie Morgan Band. Jonnie Morgan (vocals/guitar) and the rest of the band, Jeremy Adams (bass), Bruno Ufret (drums/vocals), Brandon Sollins (lead guitar), Matthew Mill (trumpet/vocals), Corey Paul (trombone/vocals) and Jose Rojas (sax) took complete control of the crowd with their catchy, melodic rocking/pop music, even drawing in the stragglers from the other areas of the BackBooth. They closed their set with the fan favorite “Crazy.” The crowd didn’t want it to end and were demanding another song, but there wasn’t enough time.

Then it was time for Lovestruck Robot. The five piece Orlando band’s rhythmic pop/rock music has a funky vibe running through it. Lead vocalist Jayce Magee is a bundle of energy, his enthusiasm and spirited delivery added to the party atmosphere of the night. Every song in their set came from their 2011 CD “I Wanna Be in a Band” and included the title track as well as the band’s newest single “Do It All For The Dream.”

Following their set was Orlando band SMB Project. The music from the four piece band, Stephen Belcamino (lead vocals/guitar), Angie Belcamino (bass), Josh Kaplan (guitar/ keyboards) and Nate Gardner (drums), is generally described as shoegaze. If shoegaze means a fusion of spectral, edgy alternative music with a classic psychedelic vibe, then that’s a pretty good description of the band’s sound. Their high-energy set included their songs “We Are One,” “Release Me” and “There’s No Solution.”

Closing out the night was Savannah. The Orlando based band never fails to draw an appreciative crowd with their soaring melodic piano-driven rock music. The band members, James Major (vocals/piano), Colin Ward (guitar), Warren Major (guitar), Hondu Knight (drums) and Andy Mack (bass), played a rousing set that included fan favorite songs “Violent Red,” “Water It Down” and “Iron and Stone.”

It was a terrific evening of Orlando local music, showcasing some of the best live music talent the city has to offer and as long as Booked Promotions continues to put together shows with such talented line-ups, they’ll be celebrating a lot of anniversaries. The best part of events like this is it’s the local Orlando music fans that benefit the most from the arrangement.

"Lovestruck Robot a Finalist- International Battle of the Bands"

Lovestruck Robot a Finalist in International Hard Rock Battle of the Bands

Tampa, FL – After months of local band submissions, it came down to six semi-finalists and now only three bands are still left to fight it out at the Seminole Hard Rock Café and Casino Final Battle of the Bands at 10 p.m. on March 3. The winner will represent Tampa in the International Hard Rock Battle of the Bands and be one step closer to the Grand Prize, which is a chance to open for Bon Jovi this summer. Lovestruck Robot, originally from Orlando, FL, rocked the house at the semi-finals and the final battle will be an epic bout against the other two bands, Mr. Bella and Seven Years Past.

"We are very excited to be putting the final touches on our first record, I Wanna Be in a Band, and getting it out to the world so this contest is a great start,” says Jace Magee, lead singer/songwriter for Lovestruck Robot, “We are very anxious to see how people react to our music and can’t wait to travel and play live shows!”

All bands will be judged on their performance of two original songs. The winner from Tampa will move on to compete in a worldwide online competition in order to win a spot on stage at Hard Rock Calling, a three-day musical celebration taking place in Hyde Park, London on June 24-26, 2011.

During their set, the bands are also required to cover Bon Jovi’s hit song, "Living on a Prayer", in homage to the international rock legend they will share a stage with if they win the competition. One band from each of the four regions of the world will earn a spot on one of the many different stages at Hard Rock Calling. The band with the highest number of votes worldwide will be Bon Jovi’s opening act. Full contest rules can be found at: http://www.hardrockbattleofbands.com/

When Lovestruck Robot successfully made it to the final round, Magee says it’s been a great reward for their hard work and a long way from their first gig at an Indian restaurant in Orlando.

“There were probably about three families eating dinner while we jammed out,” Magee recalls with a grin, “We didn’t get paid, but we got a free meal and one beer each.”

Genres: Pop / Rock / R&B

Within the first week of their debut album release in April 2011, “I Wanna Be In A Band,” Lovestruck Robot beat out more than 300 bands and won the Florida Grammy Showcase the opening night of the 2011 Florida Music Festival & Conference. The band received positive feedback from program directors, distribution contacts, music industry experts, and the general public. Since then, this Orlando based band’s following has grown in both physical and online presence and continues to have a solid following.

Some industry personnel have described the band’s sound as a collaboration of Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, and Lenny Kravitz. Lovestruck Robot shot a music video for the title track, “I Wanna Be In a Band.” The video is a tongue-in-cheek description of the stereotype musicians often have and how they are treated before and after “making it big.” Singer/Songwriter and front man, Jace Magee, has toured the U.S. as the opening act for Hall & Oates and is from Moore, Oklahoma. In 2002 he moved to Orlando to pursue his musical dreams.

In February 2012 the band was featured as “Band of the Month” on Jango Airplay and in April performed and interviewed on air at WPRK 91.5 for the “Local Heroes” show. As of May 9th, the Lovestruck Robot single “Do It All for the Dream” has been featured on Sirius XM “Top 20 on 20? in regular rotation attaining top ten status on multiple occasions and over 500 spins. The exposure has resulted in more downloads in the band’s music and an increase in the fan base. Lovestruck Robot appeared on Tampa’s WTSP-TV “Studio 10” Morning Show as musical guests, performing “Do It All for the Dream” and “Sunday With You” live, immediately receiving tremendous feedback from viewers.

In March 2013 Lovestruck Robot was honored to perform at the Florida Music Festival located in downtown Orlando in front of industry leaders and fans alike. The band is currently recording new music and just released their new single, “Random Hi5s” on iTunes in July 2013.
