Mule Skinner is a two-piece aggressive blues-grass/rock band from Niagara Falls/Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario. Matt Davis and Damien Florio have played in many bands together in the past decade, including a heavy instrumental band while they attended college in Sudbury, Ontario. The chemistry must be right, because they work together organically to write fully complex rock songs. Davis distinct voice, which shows both southern rock and native influence, sings clearly over pretty and sometimes wild blues and slide guitar. He is backed up by Florio’s hard hitting rock rhythms. I personally love these guys.
We met in Sudbury where they were playing a special show for kids living in a harder part of the town. In a day of 10 bands, they were the highlight. Since then, I have seen them play live 2 more times. They have always been the highlight of any line-up. They have songs that get stuck in your head when you go home, and they are songs that are just fun to both sing and listen to.
Mule Skinner recently self-released Hounds EP. I have a particular fondness for the track ‘Poor No Ears’, which sympathizes for humane treatment of fight dogs. You can stream it or download it for FREE on Bandcamp: http://muleskinner.bandcamp.com/

Formed in 2008, Low Animal is the powerful duo of Matt Davis and Damien Florio. Sudbury scene veterans will recall that Matt and Damien accounted for two thirds of the legendary Sudbury instrumental trio Elephanta. Since they moved home to Niagara, they've taken their post rock sensibilities and fused it with blues and country to create a heavy and emotionally evocative sound.
Too often, critics try to praise two-piece bands by saying it sounds like there are more than two people onstage. Low Animal doesn’t sound like there are more than two people onstage; they sound like there are two giants onstage.
Low Animal are simply too heavy to be supported by the foundation laid by other blues-rock two-pieces. Cracks in this foundation are starting to form, and pieces are splintering off, landing in territory varying from post-rock to hardcore and outlaw country.
In June 2009 they embarked on a cross-Canada self-booked tour. The tour propelled the duo to cultivate the powerful, genuine live performance that Low Animal is now winning a wide array of audiences with.
