Low Flying Hippies

Biography

Since their debut release Adventure before Dementia, Low Flying Hippies have featured heavily in local press and made a splash on triple J national radio and iTunes. Led by frontman-guitarist Pana, Low Flying Hippies have been welcomed by the Newcastle faithful as a mainstay of the local live gig scene.

Pana has enjoyed a musical career encompassing classical, jazz, rock, metal, reggae and blues and it is the fusion of these styles that provides his signature guitar sound. His longtime friend and fellow bandmate Mark Szeto has enjoyed A.R.I.A success for his forays into world music as well as his own eclectic exploration of musical genres. By adding third generation drummer/percussionist Chris Fields into the mix, Low Flying Hippies offer their audience audio with a twist; accessible pub rock with a wealth of experience behind it.

With a live show that channels the heights of Hendrix and the lulls of Lou Reed, Low Flying Hippies are the perfect accompaniment to a cheeky beverage or two. Now that the group has two years of solid performing together, the cohesion and precision of these three muso's is what caters to the more discerning punter. The lyrics are thoughtful, inspiring, catchy and locally flavoured. The music is nomadic, traversing the divide between virtuosic riffs and catchy rhythms in the space of a single song.
