"Concert Review: Fred Vine, This Life, Low Flying Planes"

" Low Flying Planes was on stage to keep us warm with its hot rock. This is a band that flies the original flag for the most part and shows huge potential as it comes into its own. Tonally speaking it could stand to smooth things out a bit, but the set rocked otherwise." - CITY Newspaper (Frank DeBlase)

"Low Flying Planes | Pop Vulture Magazine"

Hailing from Rochester New York, Low Flying Planes arrived on the scene with energetic pop rock as an outlet for stress at work and school. What they didn’t realize is that LFP would continue to grow into something much bigger than a hobby. The band began playing festivals, music halls and venues all over their hometown and state. This dynamic quartet of young rockers has yielded many fans from their recognizable sound and catchy melodies. Singers Devin Aldrich and Jenna Owens provide dual male/female vocals that resonate well with bands and fans alike. Low Flying Planes has gained very high ratings by the SoundOut Team for many of their songs including "Breakdown" and "Waves". The band is well on their way to success and has great potential with their marketability and accessible music. Each song is a fresh take on a memorable and welcoming sound that is captured in each of their many hooks.

"Playing Canadian Music Festival was pretty great. We played back in March and that was one of our favorite performances to date. Also, finishing the demo album was really great!"

popVLTR: You've been making moves in New York, how'd you get into music? LFP: We all kind of got into it from different directions and met in the middle! Devin and Anthony both started the band in high school Anthony played in his high school band and with LFP and Devin played a lot of guitar and wrote songs. When they graduated, they came to Rochester and went to college where Devin met Jenna in college choir. Jenna had been playing music all her life, performing in musicals and productions around town. She then went to Berklee College of Music and then returned back to Rochester where she met Devin. They have been dating since then and a little over a year ago, Jenna joined the band. Shortly after Jenna joined, Nina joined up on bass. She self-taught herself on bass after her Dad bought her guitar 7 years ago and has been playing in bands around town since, until LFP. After the lineup was together for about a year, we parted ways with our guitarist and Ryan Dapprich joined on lead guitar. Ryan has been playing guitar for years and he used to be in a different band around town, but the 5 of us just seemed to fit. Now, we all are working 100% focus on this project!

popVLTR: Congrats on 'Breakdown', who are some of your influences? LFP: The different perspectives we gain from our diverse influences really help us out! Devin is really into Dave Grohl; Nirvana, The Foo Fighters, you name it, he loves it. Anthony likes a lot of 90s grunge, anything from Pearl Ham to Mastadon! Nina is into all sorts of stuff, but she really likes Dave Matthews Band and Young The Giant. Jenna's influences are all over the place but she really likes Journey and Sara Bareilles! Ryan's influences include Led Zeppelin and Modest Mouse!
popVLTR: What are some of your proudest moments in music so far? LFP: Well playing Canadian Music Festival was pretty great. We played back in March and that was one of our favorite performances to date. Also, finishing the demo album was really great!

popVLTR: What cool stuff is on the horizon for Low Flying Planes? LFP: In the upcoming year we plan on doing some touring as well as working on our new material and playing all the time! We just want everyone to hear us and love it as much as we do! - Pop Vulture Magazine

"Artist Interview- Low Flying Planes"

1.) So tell us more about yourself, who’s Low Flying Planes?

We’re a quintet of board-game-playing, rock music-making, fun time-having group of people who came together in the weirdest ways but ended up working out in ways most wouldn’t even think of. We love playing and making music and Low Flying Planes is our outlet to that.

2.) How did you guys came together and create this band?

Fitch and Devin met in high school on their basketball team. They started to play music together and later joined forces with Anthony who also went to their school. When Devin went to college, he met Jenna in chorus and they soon started dating! After a few line-up changes, Devin, Anthony and Fitch realized that Jenna would be a great addition to the band! She joined in on dual lead vocals with Devin and keys too. After a couple months, Nina joined the band as the final piece AKA bass guitar.

3.) What’s the story behind the band’s name?

Fitch thought of the name, Devin and Anthony liked it too but it took about a year for the 3 to finally agree that Low Flying Planes would be the official name. After that, it stuck. The big plus of our name is that whenever you pass by an airport there are signs with our name on it! Free advertising!

4.) What are your music influences?

We have a crazy variety of influences ranging from Dream Theater to Adele to The Foo Fighters to The Kooks! Collectively, our different influences are what make us unique.

5.) How is it to be endorsed by Arm Vs. Hand Clothing?

They’re awesome! The other bands that they work with are really cool and we appreciate their support! Everyone check out their threads!

6.) How you guys feel about performing at the Canadian Music Festival?

When we heard about the Festival we were all really excited, it’s our first time playing in Canada and we can’t wait to show them what we’re made of! Also, to have our name on the same bill as some of the other bigger bands and artists playing the festival (like Rhianna), was pretty cool for us to see. It was a realization for what’s to come!

Speaking of which, there’s a new music video going on. Is there any official release date, single in mind?

The music video has turned into a live taping of one of our shows. We’re working on putting it together now and it will be released before the Spring as part of the unveiling of our first full length album!

You guys are working also on a new album. Can you give us some details/insights about it? Any official release date, title in mind?

We’re still editing and getting everything ready but for the most part the album is just about done! We’re going to have a CD release show and put out the album there. It’s our first full length and our single off of it, “Breakdown”, is already released and up on our Facebook page! We play most of the songs on our album at our shows but there are some that we’ve shied away from playing to save some excitement for the album. The name is still TBA. We can’t wait though. It will be quite the party.

What has been one of the funniest moments you guys have been or took part while touring?

We are starting to look into our first tour after the album is released but we play tons of shows in and around Rochester, NY. One of the funniest moments would have to be when Fitch was trying to do something cool with his guitar on stage and ended up falling down. He got a concussion but it was just funny to see him play the rest of the show and stick it out like a true rock star!

Are there any more plans for the future?

Tons! We’ve been working insanely hard on writing another album, booking shows, talking to publications (like all you cool people at Vents) and getting the word out about LFP! Our music means everything to us and we just want the world to see that. So, for the future, we’ll be doing whatever it takes to make that happen

What’s your method at the time for writing new material?

Devin writes a lot more than the rest of us. He’s written about 95% of the rhythms and lyrics. The rest of us collaborate in practice and input our ideas constantly. We also run through the same part over and over adding new things and taking out parts we don’t like. It’s really all a process of trial, error and voting on what we like better.

Where can we find more about your music?

If you follow us on Facebook and Twitter (@LowFlyingPlanes), we’ll keep you updated on our journey and all of the music that will be posted online and when the album is up for sale!

Do you guys feel you’re moving on the right direction?

100% yes. We are so proud of where we are now, and where we’re headed. Our music gets better every week and we work harder and harder to make sure that we are satisfied with the direction we’re going in. For us, this forward direction that we’re going in is something that we strive for everyday and it makes our fans, our families, and us proud to b - VENTS Magazine

"Low Flying Planes"

Low Flying Planes' song, "Pea Soup" was one that we just recorded in the studio and it's all about how the band has come together over the years. The song talks about our lead singer, Devin (he wrote most of the song) and how all that he needs "is to live by the h.." He talks about how he listens to the radio, and plays Nintendo but the only way that he'll ever really understand the world is if he can play music. So, the chorus explodes with "What I need, what i need are the answers to come to me; this is what I want and who I want to be. Because it builds me up, starts it over and over again" His soul is 100% into the song at this point, This song is truly about what it means to be a musician. It has everything to do with being willing to go through whatever it takes. And it has nothing to do with giving up.

It sounds cheesy, but this song is really a crowd favorite. Finally, after a heart-wrenching solo by Fitch (our lead guitarist), Jenna (female vocals) jumps into a key change and brings it up to a B Major with an even more powerful chorus. The song ends with a run that is so awesome it feels like it was not performed by anything less than a full blown recording studio (Jenna has that effect on people!) AND IT'S OVER! The song ends, we end the set with it too. We want to remind people how much we appreciate them coming to see us perform and that we want to do it for the rest of our lives. Music, even though it's nice to get fans and tours, would be absolutely nothing without the passion, and that's what "Pea Soup" is all about (PS Just like music, Pea Soup only tastes good if it has a lot of love in it, that's why this song has it's name!)
