"Lowlakes live @ Uniting Church Northcote"

Until their press release popped up in my (rather crowded) inbox, I had no inkling who Lowlakes were. Of course, that's the whole point of the 'Introducing...' series, but still, there's usually some buzz, some ring of the bell at a group's name - a fact made all the more surprising when you listen to these lads. This is good stuff, and it deserves to be heard. - Al's Music Rant

Smooth, warm, and occasionally touching on the grandiose, this record is simply stunning........ - The Brag

"Lowlakes EP review"

Not since I first heard Arcade Fire’s “Haiti,” have I come across a band that has the ability to transport me to another time and place, while completely removing me from my day to day existence. - The Grapevine

"Top 8 Records From March You Might’ve Missed"

The debut release from Melbourne’s Lowlakes is a proud testament to the bourgeoning talent emitting from the city.

The four-piece’s first full-length production emits a bone-chilling vapour of shoegaze that laces the entirety of the record. The unique vocal prowess that frontman Tom Snowdon wields is something of a phenomena that will raise every last hair on your body, that is, if the misty-blue dream-pop sonic saturation doesn’t do it fist.

Having already gained a cult following in the likes of Germany and The Netherlands (where the band are currently touring for the second time in their short career) Lowlakes, now championed by their debut Iceberg Nerves, are growing exponentially.

The LP exemplifies that the group are well rehearsed in the art of Talk Talk, Slowdive ,and Radiohead – ethereal melancholy that somehow instills the most euphoric of sentiments.

Heed our creed, don’t ignore Iceberg Nerves, Lowlakes are the real deal, and by the looks of things – Europe may steal them from us for good! (JH) - Tonedeaf

"Iceberg Nerves Review"

...they construct sadly, slow-dancing, edm pop standards with such a skillful maturity. In a market increasingly crowded by triphop revivals, a track like Foundations is one of the few that actually deserves to rub shoulders with the likes of Massive Attack. - 4ZZZFM

"Lowlakes Album Review"

Following the 2012 release of their eponymous début EP, Lowlakes release their first studio album, Iceberg Nerves. The album follows in the wake of successes from the likes of Bon Iver, Antony and The Johnsons, and The Irrepressibles in creating haunting soundscapes that blend a lust for nature and a spark of electro.

‘Entry’, the album opener is a perfect example of this combination. An instrumental piece that evokes the image of a time-lapse photograph across Arctic glaciers but with a distortion hidden somewhere in the distance. The distortion comes to the fore on ‘Foundations’ as lead singer Tom Snowdon’s voice becomes digitally altered to contrast against his natural vocals.

‘Newborn’ showcases Snowdon’s voice as an instrument that is set to rival that of Antony Hegarty. His vocals enhance the track as they truly complement the music.

‘Replace The Face’ starts at a glacial pace. Again Snowdon’s vocal talent enhance the track completely, acting as not just a singer but also as an instrumentalist. The instrumented looping of the vocals are what carry the track to its climax as the lyrics fade away less than halfway in. - SoSoGay Magazine

Intimate, haunting, and swirling with atmospherics, Lowlakes’ music has a sense of the cinematic. Their marriage of shoegaze, alternative and dream-pop is dark with imagery of midnight, wintry landscapes, punctuated by bone-chilling waves of frontman Tom Snowdon’s voice.

Originally hailing from Alice Springs in the central Australian desert, childhood friends Snowdon, Bill Guerin and Jack Talbot formed Lowlakes with Brent Monaghan in 2011 after relocating to Melbourne.

Lowlakes made waves with the release of their 2012 eponymous EP, performing at the prestigious CMJ Music Festival in New York in October 2012, and tours of Europe in May and October 2013 where they supported the likes of Chet Faker, Chelsea Wolfe and Half Moon Run.

Lowlakes' debut album, Iceberg Nerves, was released in February 2014 and was followed by a headline tour of Europe. The band will feature at a number of music festivals across Europe in the second half of the year as part of a follow up tour for their album.
