Bio

Lowtide Revelry Biography

Formed in 2004 with a smaller line-up and entirely different instrumental arrangements, Lowtide Revelry has grown into a sophisticated folk-influenced band with haunting lyrics and mass band melodies.

Steve Obern, on lead vocals, started out in the band as a guitar playing but his natural vocal talents and song writing skills has brought him out to front the band and take them forward to be one of the most popular bands in the Highlands.

Brothers Alisdair Brown on bass and Dougie Brown on drums have been in the band since the first days along with Ben Hesling on guitar. The sound was punk-influenced but being based in the Highlands of Scotland it wasn’t long before they began to feel the influence of the passionate folks music scene and started to incorporate the sound to their music. They were joined by Colin Cummings to bring further guitar accompaniment.

Claire Campbell is a well-known musician, having played with Belle & Sebastian and Isobelle Campbell. After releasing her own album she joined Lowtide Revelry as piano and fiddle player, adding the haunting melodies to the guitars and helping to create the sound of Lowtide.

Singer Michelle Davidson is the latest addition to the group. She sang with various Inverness bands until finding her place with Lowtide Revelry. Her strong vocals compliment the edge, which Steves vocals bring to the line-up.

Although the band now features a full line-up there is always space for one more and that is trumpeter and percussionist Sara Bills, which brings a refreshing zest to the sound of Lowtide.

2006 has been an extremely busy year for the band. After completing their first demo with Charlie McKerron of Capercaillie, the band went on to feature at the Isle of Rum music festival and on tour with Claire Campbell in the summer. Steve Obern performed with Isabelle Campbell during her recent tour of Scotland. The band also supported The Stranglers at their recent concert at The Ironworks, Inverness, playing to an audience of 1000. They ended 2006 on a high, returning to The Ironworks to headline their own concert in December.

2007 is already promising to be busy as the band get set to return to the studio to record their recent material and set out to start the Festival tour.
