LRQ New Orleans Soul Jazz Quartet

LRQ (The Louis Romanos Quartet) is a jazz project created by New Orleans Composer/Percussionist Louis Romanos in 2001 as an acoustic departure from his progressive jazz project, PermaGrin and his electronica projects. Lou combines rhythm and melody in his compositions to make a fresh new sound in the jazz scene. The LRQ is an integration of Mr. Romanos’s many influences and pays tribute to many of musical heroes. It represents his love for groovin', soulful Jazz but also the more abstract modern Jazz and profound melodies. The LRQ features a rotating group of exceptional musicians. Some featured performers are David Anderson, the Principal Bass chair in Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Dave Easley, with Brian Blade’s Fellowship band, and Dan Sumner, his partner in crime in his other group, Permagrin. In Europe, he works with young, vibrant musicians such as Evgany Ring from Russia, Arne Donadell, Richard Brüggemann and Fabian Werner from Germany to mention a few.

Louis Romanos is one of the premier drummers to arrive on the music scene from New Orleans. Mr. Romanos began his career performing with the award winning Hall High school Pops and Jazz band in West Hartford, Connecticut which included many exceptional musicians such as Brad Mehldau and Joel Frahm. From there, instead of accepting a scholarship to study music at Berkley in Boston, he went down to New Orleans to see what Jazz was like from the source. There he spent much of his time and energy playing around New Orleans as well as writing, performing and producing for his live electronica band, Permagrin. Lou has led his groups at some of the largest jazz festivals in the world, including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the Indy Jazz Festival.
