Bio

L. Spenser Smith and Testament is the profound result of what happens when the anointing finds and builds a relationship with music, ministry, and innovation! One of music’s newest break-through artist, these Alabama-based dynamos are back and steps boldly into the music scene with their sophomore masterpiece, STATEMENT- The Assignment Continues and being used of God to reach the world with a refreshing style of their own. Their first musical offering, the critically-acclaimed ASSIGNMENT No.1, garnered praise from singers and musicians across the country from both the gospel music and the secular communities.
Known for their innovative lyrical content, tight harmonies, and extraordinary musical arrangements, L. Spenser Smith and TESTAMENT seek to fuse the artistry and skill of progressive music with the passion for worship and ministry that draws attention only to Christ. With up & coming powerhouse producer, John Jackson returning to the helm, STATEMENT lives and breathes as 14 masterfully written songs that L. Spenser calls “musical moments” that find a place in the hearts of listeners to reason with them. Blessed with an awesome in-house songwriting team and a cadre of gifted singers who understand this concept, this album seamlessly flows into the ear straight to the soul and spirit.
“STATEMENT is really the renaissance of the group & me.” Smith says. “As a husband, father, pastor of two churches, and a bishop, life was overwhelming. I found myself at a crossroad of discovering who I was and not just what I do. What was I really saying; not just with my mouth but with my LIFE. Out of that time of introspection, the Lord revealed to me that He released me into the earth to be a STATEMENT; a personalized letter written to men to connect them to Him with all of who I am. That concept resonated throughout the group as we started working on this record. In retrospect, the process that God took us through really molded us into the music messages. When you sit and listen, each piece speaks of a different personal transition that each member faced during the time of the recording.” The music on this album, which is a more mature, mainstream approach, testifies to this and that is the passion that you hear when you listen to the group sing on this album.
This album features stellar cuts such as I’m Free, Greater, Right Here and You Bring Me Joy. Adding to the team is up & coming CCM artist, Zachary Kale who penned and shares a wonderful duet with Smith on the contemplative ballad, Live I Love You, and Lamar Simmons, (Worked It Out, Rick Dilliard) who contributes the powerful praise & worship medley, Let Me In, which is sure to take the listener into the throne room with Testament veteran powerhouse, Kevin Bennett at the vocal helm. The album is taken to another level with the interlude Surgery, He Is Able and He’ll Come featuring the anointed ministry of gospel’s newest sensation, Blanche McAllister.
For a group that has shared the music ministry stage with gospel greats such as Donald Lawrence, Marvin Sapp, Vickie Winans, Kim Burrell, and many others, they are still seeking that “perfect platform” of ministry. “I believe when there is an available anointing of expectation for God to move and the right songs that bring the needs of people and supply of God together, then it doesn’t matter with whom or where we are singing, it’s gonna be SHEKINAH!” With this album, L. Spenser Smith & TESTAMENT are sure to make a profound statement, mentoring a new group of minstrels and psalmists to be true vessels of ministry. “We’ve done our best to stay true to the mission we’ve felt Him calling us to, and I think STATEMENT- The Assignment Continues is just one of the many fruits of our covenant with Him.” The world will never be the same after the STATEMENT is heard!
