"Headliner's teacher tales will tickle your funny Bohn"

Readling, PA.

Comedian Lucas Bohn
Lucas Bohn's act is different from most comedians, because his life is different from most comedians.

The comic, who will headline the grand reopening of the Reading Comedy Outlet in its new location at the Alley Oops Showroom, 801 Hiesters Lane in Reading, is a fifth-grade teacher by day and a comedian on nights, weekends and summers.

And the day job is also fodder for his act.

"Kids are funny," he said. "And in comedy you just talk about your life. It's all about relatability. So people have to understand where you're coming from. And you talk about your life."

Bohn said that's why a lot of comedians talk about hotels and airplanes - because they spend so much time in them.

"I think I hit on subjects that anybody can relate to," he said. "I'm not going to talk about adopting a three-legged dog, because I don't have one."

It's been that way since he was 11 years old and used comedy to keep bullies at bay.

"Being funny was important for me," said Bohn, who was raised by two teachers in Virginia. "I was always a very small kid and I was an easy target, so if a kid came over to pick on me, I'd demolish him with my jokes."

Bohn had a particular talent for "snaps," which are insult jokes, such as "Yo Momma" jokes.

"I'd say things like, 'Your mama's so fat her blood type is Ragu,' and nine out of 10 times the kid would be laughing," Bohn said. "I had about 80 or 90 of them that I could just fire off. And that kept me from getting picked on."

When he was 11, he had three of his snaps published in a book of jokes, but it was at least another decade before he got on stage.

Like many comedians, Bohn got on stage at the urging of a friend.

The friend simply asked him what he'd want to do if he knew he was going to die the next day.

"I said stand-up comedy," Bohn said. "And then I realized I really didn't have an excuse not to do it."

That first time on stage solidified the new career direction for him, too.

"That first laugh was like a hook being set in a fish," Bohn said. "When I heard it, it was like everything made sense."

Bohn's still not ready to give up the day job, but he's getting closer. And he's thrilled that his day job gives him plenty of time to perform on weekends and during the summer.

He and his wife, Kristina, a first-grade teacher, get to travel all over the United States to gigs from Atlantic City to Vegas.

"It's really a great way to see the country," he said.

"Jimmy Fallon, Bret Ernst and Lucas Bohn"

LUCAS IN THE NEWS!! (NASHVILLE TODAY)

Comedy in Nashville (Bret Ernst ,Jimmy Fallon, and Lucas Bohn!)

This uber cool chic I work with told me this past Thursday that a friend of hers was going to check out Jimmy Fallon at Zanies. I immediately knew I was blessed to be hearing this info because the ticket was for Bret Ernst and Jimmy was billed as the 'Special Guest.' I found a tidbit online confirming Jimmy as the "very special mystery guest."

The very funny Lucas Bohn, opened the show with a 20 min set and set the mood right. He then handed it off with 'this next performer needs no introduction, Saturday Night Live's Jimmy Fallon.' Jimmy came on with his guitar and immediately started with his tune 'Car Wash for Peace.' We had perfect seats in the center of the balcony upstairs and as soon as Fallon said he didn't mind if we took pictures I decided that meant videos too. The headliner, Bret Ernst, (from Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show and Weeds on Showtime) followed Jimmy and kept the level of comedy at about as good as it gets. I was in tears a couple times. He immediately created good rapport with us and maybe because we could relate to him, definitely at the table I was sitting at, assuming he's around 30. He made fun of some of his friend's MySpace pages, being a teacher, working in the restuarant industry, early 90s R&B (Jodeci, haha!) and going to the roller skating rink back in the day! Awwww, we had a blast and laughed so much it hurt. I have some videos from the show below, ENJOY and check out the rest on my YouTube channel, - Nashville Today
