A recent transplant from the Midwest, Lucas Cook, AKA Lucascookus is, by far one of the most entertaining and engaging artists to descend on Austin in quite some time. His shows are more than just a showcase of songs, rather they are sure to entertain you and make you laugh so hard that the beer might just come out of your nose. Lucascookus brings a whole new spin to "having a good time" with his high energy shows and ability to write about audience members on the spot. His show won't disappoint.

When Lucas Cook moved to Austin, Texas, the first goal of the 2005 CMSU public relations and Spanish graduate was to find a place to live.
The Kansas City native figured in this legendary music hub, he could also hit it big as a musician.
Winning a national customer service contest wasn’t even on his radar screen. Yet when his job at Farmers Insurance Group provided him the opportunity, he quickly grabbed it.
“I moved here to launch a solo-acoustic project, and when I heard about this contest, I jumped all over it,” he said.
As part of its celebration of National Customer Service Week, the insurance company was sponsoring a national competition for its employees — write a radio spot about what your customer means to you.
Cook wrote and recorded a radio jingle, which first won the Texas contest, and advancing to nationals, also won there. “I just wrote what felt right and put it to music. I wish everything I wrote came that easy,” he said.
Jennifer Newell with Farmers’ Insurance home office in Simi Valley, CA, said Cook’s entry won because of its creativity and originality.
Music has been part of Cook’s life since age nine when he picked up a guitar and began lessons.
From dancing to Billie Jean on preschool lunch tables to comedy routines at family functions, Cook quickly realized he loves the attention.
Becoming frustrated with formal music lessons, he began teaching himself. As a student at CMSU from 1998-2005, he performed with several bands and was front man for Twixt.
Under the stage name of Cookus, he is working on his first full-length album, Ridiculous, scheduled to be out in 2006. His music is a blend of blues, funk, soul and rock.
Cook will appear April 12 at the Setlist in Warrensburg. To hear his music, visit his web site at www.lucascookus.com.
