Bio

LucasJames. is not your average Christian hip-hop MC. Born in Pontiac, MI in 1985, Lucas was raised in Escanaba, MI. Like any kid, Lucas went to Sunday school, participated in church choir and was an active member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church, and accepted Jesus at a very young age. Around the age of 13 Lucas started to rebel against everything, he had distanced himself from church activities, and started getting involved in music. In 2000, at the age of 15, Lucas started to record music and perform under the name "Skitzo". In 2001, Lucas formed a group named "HOKUM" with friend Brandon Beauchamp. Combined "HOKUM" had performed at dozens of concerts and festivals in 4 states, were played on local radio, had 3 full length album releases and were offered a recording contract with Majik Recordz (Psychopathic Records, Detroit, MI) in 2003. In 2006 Lucas had left Escanaba for Grand Rapids, MI. He had thought that the move would bring positive change to a fizzling music career, but instead it lead to a very difficult bout with depression and anxiety. In April of 2007, Lucas attended a Easter Sunday church service at Bella Vista Church in Rockford, MI, with then girlfriend, now wife, Rachel. This was the first time Lucas had been to church in almost 8 years. Very moved by the service, Lucas began attending every Sunday with Rachel and her family. Though he was attending church, Lucas was battling with himself and his music. He knew he would have to change from the comfort of writing secular music, what he was saying wasn't a painting the picture of how he was living, now. In September of 2007, Lucas dedicated his life to Jesus Christ and vowed to only write Christian music. "Yes, Now.", the first single off his upcoming release "SpeakNoEvil.", was written the night Lucas accepted Christ. Throughout his music, you hear the past, present and future of LucasJames., but more so, you hear what God can do in the life of not only Lucas but anyone who believes in Jesus.
