Luciano Sprovieri

I’m going to keep this section pretty simple just because my life is fairly normal, I was not abused by anyone as a child, I have not been in jail or have done anything scandalous, so far. But that doesn’t mean I’m not creative! Actually, that might be my dark side. I think that being an artist is sort of a curse, I tried to run away from it by going to business school but it wasn’t something I was able to choose. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have that urge. The creative process is like giving birth: painful but it’s also life-changing. I get an enormous feeling of fulfillment when I’m done writing or recording a song. It’s like entering the pearly gates of heaven.

With that said, I was born and raised in SãoPaulo, Brazil. My family is in the clothing business and they also, infinite times, tried to pull me away from the artistic life. But we have a wonderful relationship. We don’t see each other as often as we would like because I live in Los Angeles but we talk regularly.

I was very interested in songwriting at an early age. I think I wrote my first song when I was 8 years old and melody lines have always popped in my head since then. I love melodies, it’s the most important thing in a song for me. I am also very interested in lyrics. I wrote many lyrics in Portuguese before I decided to write in English. Strangely I find writing in English easier than writing in Portuguese, because I am not as critical when I write in English. Like they say: “ignorance is bliss”.

Back to my life: I was always involved with music and performing through high school and college (and even after college). But I’ve always fantasized about living abroad and pursuing music in a more grand way. In 2005 I came to California to visit my older brother and loved it so much I decided to stay and do what I’ve always wanted to do. Within the first couple of months I met my friend Allen Copeland who's been my main songwriting partner since.

During these 5 years I’ve been here I’ve written songs, studied music theory  and recording, and some of the results are here on this website for you to listen to and (hopefully) enjoy!
