"Live Review- Southside on the Town"

Friday, 13 October 2006

Hey, Fearless fans, do ya wanna get rocked? Whew – and with SouthSide as your tour guide for this wild adventure, you’ll definitely feel the rush. The Kinetic Playground in Chicago is the place of your adventure. Hold on! It’s going to be a bumpy ride! Welcome to the Kinetic Playground – the absolute coolest venue to hangout and chat with friends as well the bands before and after the show. Southside had a great time meeting and chatting with some of Thursday’s line-up and also meeting other bands checking out the show. Hey, Fearless fans don’t be shy – they appreciate chatting with people who enjoy their music. When Lucid Ground took the stage at the Playground, they were smokin’ HOT! They been featured on the New Music Binge (heard live Mon thru Thurs 4p to 6pCST) and wow – they performed the most awesome raw rock sound which had SouthSide’s head banging to their music. Fearless fans, you need to check out SouthSide’s friends, Lucid Ground, and she promises you will be totally amazed by Karl (the band’s front man) and his raspy, sexy vocals, especially when he sang their opening number-"Don't Leave". Luis and Jeff on guitars, Brian on bass and in the back, my main man on drums, Leonard – whew can they jam! The guys performed a couple of new songs for the audience which really had them feeling the rock vibes off their music. Their first new song had this killer instrumental and drumming however SouthSide believes the guys absolutely shined when they performed one of her favorite classic Doors songs, “Hello, I Love You”. If you weren’t there Thursday night, you missed out on the BEST rendition of any Doors’ song that SouthSide has heard! Yes, the spirit of the Lizard King was among us and it was so fitting that it was performed in a place like Kinetic Playground. SouthSide was surely certain the audience was feeling it too as they sang along with the band word for word …and do you want to know something – the guys just learned it a few days before the show. Well, let SouthSide tell you, it sounded like they had performed it live way before Thursday night – yes, Fearless fans, it was that good which earned the band SouthSide’s song of the night. Their next few songs returned to the raw rock sound and SouthSide was really getting into their performance. When these guys start jamming, they REALLY start jamming – damn, Karl’s amazing the audience with his raspy screamin’ vocals, oh yeah we felt ya, man, as you made love to the microphone; Leonard’s jamming away on the drums with one rockin’ drum solo; and Luis, Jeff and Brian are rocking out with their amazing guitar licks. Feel the rush, Fearless fans, as they perform another song which began with an awesome guitar intro and then a thunderous clash and bang from the drums …then here comes the sultry, sexy vocals which had SouthSide mesmerized during their set. He really knows how to add some extra oomph in his vocals during each song and not only that the guitarists had some wicked atmospheric sounds in this song as well as the others too. The instrumentation was killer – Lucid Ground performed one helleva set Thursday night that included rocking hard during the instrumental and finishing every song with hot climaxes …and the audience loved every minute of it. Their last song had another awesome intro with that rocking metal sound then it mellowed out into a gentle ballad during the verses however during the chorus, the band jammed hard before returning back to the verses. Once again, Karl’s giving it his all on the chorus with those raspy vocals of his and the rest of the band is putting on an amazing jam session while on stage. And the set ended with one f-ing hot finish until the very last whine off the electric guitar was strummed …BEST finish ever! HOT DAMN, what a performance, Fearless fans, and you can check out Lucid Ground when they perform next at Subterranean on Thursday, October 26. - FearlessRadio.com

"Live Review"

“I had the pleasure to see these guys at their CD release @ Double Door in late December two words; ROCK SHOW! It was a Thursday night the placed was jammed and you could feel the energy consume you. As soon as they hit the stage you knew it was going to be a good night as fans rushed forward I found myself drawn forward with them and from the first note to the last I was captivated. After a solid set of originals the crowd still wanted more calling them back onstage for a 3 song encore that still wasn’t enough. The band then came from backstage to play one final tune. You really just don’t see that kind of response for a local band these days. After being fairly eager to finally check these guys out, i can honestly say that it was a pleasure rockin' out the end of the year with Lucid Ground." - Chris Vaylor

"Nightlife"

"Lucid Ground's Last to Know is a solid debut front to back; classic and modern rock fans should definately listen up. This tight set of polished songs brings to mind some great artists (QOTSA, Zepplin, Jane's Addiction, Perfect Circle, STP, etc.) due to the excellent riffs, solos, grooves, and vocals. But the powerful stand-out track "Plastic Devil" alone proves this band is more than the sum of their influences. Combining vocalist Karl Hafner's anguished cry of "I want to show you how it feels to be alive," with the unstopable bombast of drummer Leonard Warren's power, this dynamic track only hints at this band's live power. Over-all, the mix of new and old tracks promise that the best is yet to come." - Dave Castenella

"Origami- Signature Track"

Great track! Makes me want to see the band live:

This is probably my favorite track I've heard on here so far. Band sounds really, really tight. Excellent playing and tone on all the instruments. Nice guitar riffs. The song is brilliantly arranged and performed; excellent production & mixing/mastering. I enjoyed the vocal performance and when he lets loose on the choruses his voice is world-class. I would have liked to hear more variation in the guitar solo instead of a couple of repeated themes during the solo section, (I felt like it should have kicked in at 2:25) but this is a very mild complaint compared with the overall song.

The track makes me want to see the band live. I get the impression that I would get blown away with a great live show and quality stage presence. - Review- GarageBand.com
