"Barfly, Review"

Swansea based Lucius were a late addition to tonight’s bill. Opening up the night in style for Loguey and Midas! Having heard of the band previously, I was intrigued as to how they would propel their full recorded sound to the stage. Well…the answer?? In an explosive fashion!!
I’m told frontman Luke sprained his ankle minutes before going on tonight, this didn’t stop him bouncing to every groove or throwing his guitar round during every instrumental break!
Not only taking the audience on a journey through their raw alt-pop set, we were treated to many dazzling samples which begged the question, how can a 3 piece make all this noise?
The only dampener for their 30 minute set was a slightly out of place Roy Orbison cover which could have made way for an original song. After all, they drew me in with a slur of catchy melodies toppled with a solid backbone and a thirst that could drive them to become Wales’ unconventional stars! A fine performance in the capital. 8/10 - Local Freelance Journo

Bio

Led by singer/songwriter Luke Morgan, Lucius’s melodic mix of driving guitars, gutsy lyrics, loops, sounds and beats is a contagious combination.

Luke has shared the stage with artists including, Paul Roberts (Stranglers) Jarcrew, Regga metallers Skindred and Funeral For A Friend. He has been the songwriter behind numerous number ones on internet radio, artist of the week on Total Rock and recorded for Radio 1 Session Wales.

Luke has worked with a variety of producers including Dan Swift (Placebo, Feeder) Phil Brown (The Rolling Stones, Dido, Faithless) and Joe Gibb (Catatonia, Leftfield, Texas, James Addiction, Travis, Robbie Williams, The Kinks, Liberty 37, Million Dead's 'A song to Ruin', and Funeral for a Friend's land mark EP 'Between Order and Model').

To create the distinct Lucius sound, Luke has been joined by Stuart Moore on Drums and Mike Gibson on bass and backing vocals. Stuart is a great all round musician with over 10 years of drumming for local bands. His technical know-how has already proven to be a great asset to Lucius. Mike also has years of experience playing in bands with members of Catatonia, and more recently in an original group that played in many of the well known venues in Cardiff and Newport. Mike also started off on the Welsh Language, performing regularly live on TV and Radio.

Most recent adventure was Luke spraining his ankle tripping off stage moments before their debut at the Cardiff Barfly.. in true rock and roll fashion though, he played on regardless........!!

The bands influences include Beck, Faith No More, Bob Dylan, Nine Inch Nails, The Kinks, Leftfield, Moby, Basement Jaxx, Sugababes, Prince, Babybird, The Prodigy, Right Said Fred, Head Automatica, Alfred Hitchcock and Gorillaz.

The guys are keen to participate in all performance opportunities that come there way as they seek to hone their craft. The Lucius boys have a passion for all things music, love of life and affinity for mischief. This is singer/songwriter gutsy honesty with a big rock band sound.
