"Lucky: although not so lucky that they could avoid working with Dido"

Lucky is the creative offspring of Canadian Malcolm Francis and ex-Dido backing singer Myndy K. Don't let your hatred of all things Dido make you miss this unique blast of kitschy Norman Cook-endorsed rocktronica. Visit www.matchboxrecordings.co.uk for a listen

Bio

LUCKY was conceived by MYNDY K & I. MALCOLM FRANCIS. MALCOLM is Canadian, born on a skateboard & raised on punk rock. He toured Canada & the U.S.A. playing bass for a band called Skin Barn opening for Urge Overkill, Green Day & Nirvana. In ‘93 he moved to the Big Apple lookin’ for trouble & started his own prod. Co., Popular Beat Combo, making beats for MTV & VH1 and re-mixing tracks for artist like Etta James & Donna Summer. MYNDY K grew up on a musical goat farm in Vermont. Shortly after moving to NYC she signed a record deal with Strictly Rhythm Records (’96-’99) during which time she worked with the Berman Bro.’s, Johnny Vicious, Eddie Baez, Hani & DezroK to name a few. With 5 dance singles under her belt, including her #14 Billboard dance hit “MOMENTS”, Myndy K had a reputation on the underground music scene as one of the fiercest performers in the NYC underworld. In ‘99 she sang back up for Dido on her first U.S. tour and it was then that she realized it was time to create her own band. After meeting each other in ’00, MALCOLM & MYNDY were completely swept into the force they now call LUCKY. They got together to work on one song and resurfaced 23 songs later knowing that what they’d been waiting for their whole lives was now upon them. LUCKY, the band, is Myndy K on vocals, I. Malcolm Francis on bass, Rob Bose on keyboards & special effects & Genji Siraisi (Groove Collective) on drums. They’ve been captivating NYC audiences with their live show since ‘01 and recently released their first album, “Stories By The Fire’s Side” on their own label, Spyralhead Lady (cdbaby.com). Their sound is electronic meets acoustic, dark meets light, Blondie meets Patsy, a serpent with wings……Feelin’ LUCKY?

Aaron King, Freelance Television Producer

“teasingly diverse”

“Sexy...Melodic...Captivating....LUCKY”
Sarah Ivory, CONNOISSEUR/East Coast A&R

“...like a four leaf clover for your ears”
Bill Coleman, PEACE BISQUIT/President

“Music for the morning after a Satanic Ritual”
Acey Slade, guitar player for the MURDER DOLLS

"Stories by the Fire's Side", featuring the chimerical vocals of Myndy K and the dark rhythms of I. Malcolm Francis, Rob Bose and Glen Alger Schricker, paints a picture of plush lounge as a phantasmagoric funhouse. From the mischievous opening "We Are Children" to the hypnotic remake of "Wish You Were Here" and the hilarious acoustic monologue in "Stories By The Fire's Side", this CD is dark, deft and dreamlike.
Edmund O’Reilly, LIVE 365 “Afterhours Café”

“The best indie release in years. Production is very strong, love all arrangements and a combination of live bass appearing on a top of sampled sounds. Great electronica record with a lot of pop intention.”
Igor Kisil, NOSTALGIC RECORDS / A&R

“God broke the mold when he made Myndy K, and so it without much surprise that Lucky rocks. I liked their songs the very first time I heard them and I like them even more when I listen to them now. Their live show is positively electric.”
Lizzie Simon, Author of “DETOUR”/NY Times bestseller
