LUCKY HOLLOWAY Up the Highway (Bootcut Records) From the Lethbridge/Pincher Creek parts of Alberta, roots country dude Holloway put in his time in Austin and it shows. He's as down-home country as ol' Hank with lyrics and everything dren...ched in sobbing guitars. "Big Mouth Woman," big highlight. -- John P. McLaughlin - Vancouver Province, 12/15/2009

The Walking Dead, Songs of Lucky Holloway, Fez Guy Records (Austin) 1995

Lucky’s been fronting bands in Calgary, Austin and Vancouver for the better part of 20 years, including Lucky’ Holloway’s Hillbilly Revue, The Walking Dead, The Deltans & Big Sky. Playing Lucky’s originals primarily, but peppered with chestnuts from the likes of Hank and Lefty, these combos each had a distinctive character, from alt-Country to straight Honky-Tonk. The current lineup of Lucky Holloway’s Hillbilly Revue, based in Calgary, is made up of some of the best in Western Canada (including a few Ian Tyson alumni).

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta and raised in and around Pincher Creek, Lucky’s roots in country are deep – there really wasn’t anything else on the radio when he was growing up there. Lucky spent a little over 5 years in Austin, Texas, maintaining a few regular gigs, recording and releasing a cd and performing at SXSW in 1995. Playing in Austin (as well as short stints in Tulsa & Baton Rouge) raised the bar for Lucky, and he came home with a deeper understanding of the range of country music, adding more swing, bluegrass, county-blues and gulf coast styles to his show.

Lucky’s new cd, Up the Highway, on his own Boot Cut Records, is really the fruition of 20 years’ work and is already bringing in new fans for Lucky and new fans for country music itself.
