Bio

Lucretia's Daggers Band Bio:

Band Bio/Genre/Influences/Comparisons: Three-to-four member Boston-area band since August 2001. Genre: original dark lyrical art rock. Hybrid blend of retro 70s rock, 80s synth pop, 90s punk/riot grrrl vocals, and 00s electronica (sequencer) with emphasis on poetic lyrics. Think Fiona Apple meets Sisters of Mercy. Other influences: (Lauri Murphy/Lucretia--vocals/lyrics/melodies): Dresden Dolls, Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey, Poe, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Throwing Muses, XTC; (Stephanie--Casio keyboard): Depeche Mode, Garbage, Nine Inch Nails; (Darrell BrownIbanez guitar/Korg EMX-1 Electribe sequencer): Chicago, Pat Metheny, Santana/Chick Corea, Keither Emerson, McCoy Tyner. Comparisons: The Damned, Dead Can Dance/Lisa Gerrard, Kurt Weill, New York Dolls, Velvet Underground, X-Ray Spex/Poly Styrene.

History: Begun August 2001 with lyricist/melodist/vocalist Lauri Murphy and guitarist/collaborator Andrew Berlet, Lucretia's Daggers played to full-capacity house parties of artists, freaks, goths, pagans, and friends in Watertown, MA for a year. After the short-term addition of bassist Alex Levin and, later, Andrew Berlet's move to Michigan, Lauri reformed the band with the help of Darrell Brown (guitarist, collaborator, and sequencer arranger) in April 2002, then Stephanie (keyboards), and subsequently Mark Cloherty (bass) 6-8 months thereafter. The 4-piece band's nightclub debut and 5-song demo CD release party was held 9/7/03 at O'Brien's Pub in Allston "Rock City" MA. In Summer 2004, Mark Cloherty left the band for graduate school, and the band was rejoined with bassist/collaborator Rob Mercier who departed 11/04 to concentrate on his own band, Thylacine.

Performances: In addition to one to three annual house parties, other Massachusetts performances have included: Bristol Studios (Boston), Burning Man Decompression Party (Boston), Borders Bookstore Caf (Cambridge), Jacques Underground (Boston), ManRay Club's "Miss Goth contest" (Cambridge, MA), New England Pagan Pride Day (North Andover), OBriens Pub (Allston), Post Presidential Inaugural Commiseration Blue Party (Boston), The Sky Bar (Somerville), the Tremont Tea Room (Boston), P.A.'s Lounge (Somerville), and Zeitgeist Gallery (Cambridge).
