Bio

Lucy B, also known as Lucy Burke, a Sydney born singer songwriter. While predominantly a solo artist, she also is frequently supported by her band 'Lucy and the B Sides.'

Lucy B recently headlined at both The Basement and The Vanguard.

Currently recording her second album at Hot Potato studios (the Wiggles Studio) with producer Ben Hardie, Lucy B has recently completed her first single, ‘Limbo’ and is busy performing around Sydney with her band ‘The B Sides.’

Lucy B has performed at various venues over the years including: The Metro, Annandale, Hopetown, Roxbury, Tea Gardens Hotel and Excelsior, as well as featuring at various festivals including performing at the Australia Day Parramatta festival after the Hoodoo Gurus.

Lucy B’s debut album ‘Botany Street’ was pre-selected for ARIA Nominations in 2010, under such categories as Best Female Artist, Best Adult Contemporary and Best Independent Release. She has also been asked to participate in a photo shoot for MX newspaper to promote up and coming Sydney artists.

Prior to recording her latest album at the Wiggles Studio with Ben Hardie, the origins of ‘Botany Street’ began in 2007 when Lucy B met another engineer and producer Ben Pounder after placing an ad in the local paper Drum Media, where she was seeking other musicians to collaborate with. Ben Pounder was working out of former Billy Thorpes studio where they began preproduction for the album.

‘Botany Street’ was recorded at various studios, including the famous and renowned Abbey Road London as well as Mangrove, Level 7, Trackdown and New World. The album is a collection of acoustic, jazz and orchestral songs written about and dedicated to her life at ‘Botany Street’ in Bondi.

Prior to this, Lucy B was the lead singer in Lillja, an acoustic duet with Singer/Songwriter Simone Macarounas from the band Mushu. For five years, Lillja performed around Sydney and produced a series of recordings and EPs. It was in 2006 however, that Lucy B decided to pursue a solo career, wanting to record and perform her own songs. “I really enjoyed being in Lillja and loved writing songs with Simone but always felt that at some point I wanted to record my own songs and have more creative control. It’s great collaborating, but I always felt that deep down I wanted to be a solo artist.” Lucy B says.

Lucy prides herself on writing songs to suit the subject, mood and style: “I find it restrictive writing songs in one style. Whenever I place restrictions on a song it never turns out right and sounds formulated.” As a result ‘Botany Street’ could be described as a combination of acoustic, pop, orchestral, country and jazz.

Lucy B’s next album is no different, incorporating acoustic with electronic and mo town, placing no limitations on style and musical creativity. Her live performance has been described as an intimate and soulful experience, ranging from performing solo on stage with an acoustic guitar, to being accompanied by the ‘B Sides’ on electronics, piano, drums, electric guitar and bass.

Lucy B’s ‘Botany Street’ and her latest single ‘Fantasize,’ featured on the hit TV show ‘Satisfaction,’ are available on itunes. Her second album ‘Calm Before the Storm’ is set to be released mid 2012.
