"Review: Luik - Are You Lonesome Tonight EP"

Written by Lukas Dikker in just one weekend and recorded in another with the rest of the band. It’s Inspired by the Elvis Presley song played on a tiny musicbox , which perfectly illustrates the intimate, melancholic mood of this ep. Slow, almost rhytmbox like drums, simple melodic basslines and delicate guitars. It’s a “close miced” recording that feels like the band is playing right in your own living room with vocalists Lukas and Gerrit soflty singing you to sleep. The four songs could be caterogized as bedroom/dreampop and should appeal to fans of Beach House, Deerhunter et al. But in the end it’s the highly personal vision of Lukas that makes this little disc so desirable. - Samling Recordings

Bio

At the start of the 2012, Dutch Indie outfit LUIK released their breathtaking debut 'Owls', drawing elated reviews across the country. Their sparse, subtle sound draws comparisons to Low, Julian Lynch, John Frusciante or Sparklehorse: Lukas Dikker's whispering woebegone vocals, the serpentine & pressing basslines entangled with slow paced, off kilter drums and haunting minimalistic guitar playing. LUIK´s beauty is not easily encapsulated, but therefore all the more compelling to those lending an ear.
