Bio

Luisito Rey Reyes native of San Juan, Puerto Rico was raised in Spanish Harlem and in the Bronx.  Luisito is the newest salsa sensation that has been added to the Muziq Inc. Record Company.

Nestor Louis of LaMusica.Com who reviewed both of Luisito’s productions, “Y El Punto Es…” and “Desde El Barrio de la Salsa”, has been quoted as saying “Luisito’s music represents what the essence of salsa is – aggressive playing—a gritty old school sound with current material”.  Nestor Louis has also said that he is impressed with Luisito not just as a bandleader but also as a person.

Luisito has performed for large audiences in the past at the old Hunts Point Palace, Colgate Gardens, Casino14, La Mancha, Club Tropicoro, Club Cubano, and at the St. George Hotel.  More recently, with his current band, Luisito has performed at La Maganette, Le Bar Bat, Gonzalez y Gonzalez, Club 2000 Fifth, Tony’s of Worth St. and at the Wild Palm also SOB”s.  He has also performed at several Puerto Rican Festivals in New York and New Jersey.

Among Luisito’s accomplishments are Luisito’s first vinyl L.P. (1968) on Mio Int. Record Label “Here We Go” produced by Marty Wilson and Pete Terrace.  Luisito, a.k.a. Louie Rey, received “Best New Band of the Year” award presented by radio D.J. Dick Ricardo “Sugar” in 1968.  In 1999, Luisito recorded his second production titled “Luisito Rey y Punto a Punto…Y El Punto Es…” produced by Luisito Rey and Van Lester on the Vanlo Record Label and in 2000, Luisito returned to the studio to work on his third production, “Desde El Barrio De la Salsa”, produced by Luisito Rey and Rene Leyva, distributed by Max Music/Universal on the Leone Productions label.  Both his 1999 and 2000 productions received great reviews from Nestor Louis, Radio Musica and Latinos Unidos. Luisito just completed his fourth production with Ernie Acevedo on the Muziq Record Label titled “Ahora Vengo Sabroso.”

Luisito’s career started at a very young age when he studied drumming.  Throughout his school years, Luisito continued to work hard at perfecting and expanding his percussive skills by seeking out great coaches the likes of Jose Madera, Jr., Charlie Santiago, Raul Santiago and William Ramirez, to mention a few.  Before starting his own band, he worked with the Chombo Silva Sextet, Conjunto “La Perla”, CharanSon, John Quiñones, and Grupo Azucar and on occasion with Cheo Feliciano.  These experiences helped him in becoming a bandleader.

An important part of the Luisito Rey Orquestra is charismatic vocalist, Ralphy Vega.
