Luiz Caracol

Luiz Caracol was born in Elvas (Portugal), in 1976. His parents had just arrived from Angola, the country where they lived before independence and that so early created an environment of cultural mix, surrounded by people who had also returned from Africa and the Brazil, after April of 1974.

He grew up in this mixture of cultures and it had a strong influence on him, both as a person and as a musician.

Although the music has always been very present in his home and family, he never took very seriously during his childhood and adolescence, until early in 1994, when he started playing guitar and in 1996 when he decide to take it serious and went to the Academy of Music. Two years later he started the course of guitar and singing in the Hot Club of Portugal (jazz school), where he studied until 2001.

At the same time he was already playing in some bars and clubs in Lisbon, being part of projects related to the Lusophone and World music.

In 2009 Sara Tavares invited Luiz Caracol to make part of her band in the international tour where he played bass, guitar, cavaquinho and sang.

In 2011, he was invited by the brazilian artist Pierre Aderne to participate in the documentary MPB (Brazilian Portuguese Music) about Lusophone music collaborating with other artists like Jorge Palma, Fernanda Abreu, Susana Felix, Tito Paris, Sara Tavares, Susana Travassos, among others.

During 2012 Luiz recorded his first solo album, titled "Devagar", released on May 2013, by Get! Records.

Luiz Caracol is currently promoting his album and preparing a tour by several stages in Portugal and abroad.
