The Luke Johnson Band is a high energy five piece posse of musical pioneers who thrive on improvisation and conscious lyrical hooks. Blending elements of rock, funk, jazz and roots with their original grooves and freshly spread jams, they transcend limitation with a strong voice. A keyboard based band that continually refines the musical essences of the past while morphing each song into a new landscape of sound, this band stirs the crowd, ignites the dance floor and unifies everyone within its range.
Since 2009 LJB has travelled to many venues and festivals such as Wilderness Jam, Full Moon Fest, SoundQuilt, Healing Waters, Buffalo Gap Jam Fest, Burning Leaves, and Stop the Kaboom. Pouring through their diverse set of original music and choice covers they captivated the crowds with their unique presence and effortless precision. Luke has had the pleasure of opening the stage for New Riders of the Purple Sage, Jerry Garcia Band, Rusted Root, ekoostik hookha, Parliament Funkadelic, The Recipe, The Hackensaw Boys, Donna the Buffalo, Project Object, The Bridge, Funk Ark, Vince Herman, Toubab Krewe, Papa Mali, Vince Welnick, Tom Constanten, and many more.
The LJB core fan base is well established and expands into Northern VA, Baltimore, DC, New Jersey, North Carolina and New York. With no end in sight the band continues to drive towards its goal of bringing quality music back into the mainstream where it belongs.
The group collects influence from a wide range of acts such as The Dead, Dr. John, Bruce Hornsby, Tom Waits, Thelonious Monk, The Beatles, Parliament Funkadelic, Allman Brothers, Fela Kuti, Herbie Hancock, Medeski Martin and Wood, Bob Marley, Spearhead, Matisyahu, Umphrey’s McGee and Bob Dylan. LJB blends infectious piano lines, funky bass riffs, soaring vocals, edgy guitar leads and dynamic drum grooves to showcase there diverse musical vocabulary. The intense creative energy between the members grows stronger with each performance. Be prepared for anything because these guys follow the current of ideas in every moment.
