"July 5th, 2006"

Luke O'Connor and his band, really hit the spot. Originally from Queensland, Luke has a wonderful voice that harks to Jeff Buckley. One song had me thinking, 'One Crowded Hour' by Augie March. He has a warm, soulful voice and the band stood behind the voice, not overpowering it, giving it space to shine, but always keeping the songs on course. I can hear something going on with this guy and his band.

Bio

The Debut EP from Melbourne songwriter Luke O'Connor is out July 1st though selected venues and independent stores.

Evidence that substance need not be devoid of style, new Melbourne singing/songwriting force Luke O'Connor lets loose with his self-titled EP.

Luke emerges with a unique country/rock/folk experience, writing his own script and commanding the attention of audiences with his powerful, raw and emotive voice. A romantic rascal articulating themes of guileless honesty and passion, Luke's expressive vocal and affecting lyrics will have the most conventional listener captivated. His lyrics are confessional and sobering at times. Finding an artist so genuine and unreserved is rare, but Luke is no everyday musician.

The five tracks boast enchanting glimpses of jazz and country, each song a gem in Luke's soul-baring acknowledgment of love's dichotomous strain and euphoria. Themes of guilt, passion, self-fulfillment and desperation are ostensible in this debut treasure.

All songs were written and recorded by Luke O'Connor (vocals, guitar); James Ferguson (piano, guitar, vocals); Peter Barnes (bass, vocals) and Tim White (drums). The EP also features appearances from Jo Kelly Stephenson (vocals) and Ralf Maldarelli (electric guitar).

The EP was produced by James Ferguson at Six Fingers Studios, Melbourne.

Originally from Yeppoon in Central Queensland, Luke's career has spanned the East Coast of Australia, performing extensively in the live music circuits of Queensland and Victoria, and are currently playing venues in Melbourne and in the Whitsunday region.
