In today’s live music scene full of the gimmicky, head banging antics of rock bands and country singers glamorized by designer cowboy apparel and pseudo southern accents, it is rare to find a live show that’s energy comes from the music being played and not from fickle images and wild antics. Luke Pruitt and the Doghouse Band is one act that still brings this musical energy to the table.
Hailing from Northwest Arkansas, Pruitt has been writing songs and performing them acoustically since he was 15 years old. Upon being in Middle Tennessee over the past few years, Pruitt has patiently scouted the right musicians to bring his songs the energy that comes not from volume knobs or cowboy hats, but from musicians that learn from and feed off of each other, bringing any audience honest and soulful presentations of Pruitt’s songs about life, love, pain, loss, and hope.
Although Pruitt’s songwriting feeds mostly from country and rock influences, the improvisational vibe that the band has will seem as much like a night at a smoky jazz club as it will a country or rock show. If the term improvisational worries you though, it shouldn’t. While the Doghouse Band will extend songs and allow each player to speak through their instrument, the band remains focused on the melodic structure and the stories in Pruitt’s songs.
