"Lukup shook up the place!"

It is not often that one encounters an artist of such raw talent and refined ability. Kobe Wood, who goes by the alias 'Lukup' when he is on stage, showed me what a live performance is really about. Combining sound design, solid drum samples and fat bass lines with an extended knowledge of harmony and chord progressions; Kobe is really a complete musician. By the time he added in the element of poetic lyricism, everyone in the audience was blown away. I had a chance to meet up with Kobe after the show to get a better idea of what he is trying to accomplish. When asked about what he enjoys most about making music, Kobe replied "It's all about communication for me. The instrumental music is one way for me to express what is happening in my head and heart. However, lyrics are what I consider to be my forte." This makes sense, when one analyzes the music more carefully, a lot of Kobe's melodic top/bass lines are very lyrical and easily singable. "Earworms" he calls them: "Little melodic devices that burrow into your brain and lay eggs there." Definitely a definition that I will not so easily forget. Like the performance, much of what Kobe does is considered eccentric at the least, and bordering the avant--garde. The combination of live looping groovy drums and catchy bass lines, then improvising over the top is very new and exciting. There are not many people out there who can combine the knowledge of acoustic instrumentation, and electronic configuration. Those groups are usually mutually exclusive. But Kobe is making good on his word of unification. Bringing all the elements of sound together into one cohesive whole. When asked how he would define his genre of music he replied: "I like to call it 'Acoustic Fusion' meaning, 'That which brings all sound together.' I love this definition, because the more you think about it, the less sense it makes." Now, with that being said, I will leave you, the listener, to decide what this definition means, and how important definitions even are in the first place.

Shoots, braddah. - JGar

Still working on that hot first release.

I am a solo songwriter/producer looking to collaborate with as many different artists as possible. Whether producing in the studio, or performing at a live gig, I love making music of all kine. As long as those guitar amps are pumped up to 11 and the subs are the size of a baby elephant, I'm here for it.
