Bio

Lula Granji's unique style combines free form improvisation, shredding guitar, masterful pre-production and driving beats. Their music is both dance inspiring and thought provoking while their live performance stimulates all of the senses.

For live performances, Lula is joined by visual artist Kyle Monks and Lula Hooper Alyssa McClelland. Monks' tailor-made 3D video projections take the viewer on an intense mystical journey while McClelland mesmerizes with her captivating style of hoop dance.

In July, 2011 the band won the Bridging the Music Monday Madness Battle of the Bands and have played with acts like J-Wail, Future Simple Project, Particle and more. The band is currently working on their forthcoming album, which is slated to drop winter, 2011.

A Brief History:

The band formed in 2010 and is comprised of a group of seasoned musicians who honed their craft before even graduating high school. Each member is a multi-instrumentalist who contributes layers of sound on each track.

Guitarist/Bassist/Pianist/Producer Hiroki Collins dabbled in playing the piano, trumpet and rapping before picking up the guitar. He discovered jam and electronic music in college and has been hooked ever since. His technical ability stems from his love for metal which influences his improvisation style. Collins combines his love for hip-hop, jam, dance, metal and reggae in his playing.

Drummer/Precussionist Marshall Van Swaay believes that "Drums have a tribal tie to us," explaining that they "were used often in many spiritual communication and ceremonial procedures. All this in consideration, drums and humans have a primal connection. The vibrations speak to this connection and reminds us of that primal origin." He draws his influence from sound of nature and drummers from bands like Lotus, The New Deal, Phish, The Disco Biscuits and classics like Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and Pink Floyd.

Bassist/Guitarist/Pianist/Producer Braden Waller began playing piano at age 4 and guitar at age 8. Waller's first band 40 Foot Journey was already playing Cervantes and Quixotes (formerly Owsley's) by the time he was a junior in high school. Waller draws his influences from movie scores (as he is currently studying film at CU Boulder) as well jazz and jam-tronica.
