"Cross Rhythms Review"

The music is a blend of intelligent, atmospheric guitar work, beautifully arranged and crafted songs….In terms of comparisons, Derek McAlpine’s voice reminds me of Remy Zero’s Cinjun Tate, and musically, some moments remind me of The Violet Burning. The EP is great - it has grown on me after just a few listens and the songs have become a part of everyday life for me. Here is a band to watch out for (Daniel Hames, Cross Rythms, Issue 81) - Cross Rhythms Magazine

Bio

luma have been together as a band for just over two years and have already done some things they never thought they would. the band have all been friends for a long time but decided that they wanted to be in a band together thus luma was born. the members of the band come from bellshill, coatbridge and motherwell and would count various bands as influences but we won't tell you who.

luma's sound has been described as having: " the sweep of u2, the melodies of teenage fanclub and the americana jangle-pop of the thrills and the beach boys" according to the edinburgh evening news.

after playing their first gig in lux (Motherwell) in june of 2003 luma ventured out to the glasgow scene and were quickly making a stir by headlining the usual venues in the city. they then went on to win the north lanarkshire battle of the bands 2003 with a very kind stand in on vocals for the night of the final.

a support slot at the motherwell civic theatre with brian houston was then forthcoming to coincide with the launch of the first luma e.p. titled california which has sold well since it's release. the follow up which is tentatively titled daytime t.v. has had a good response from those have been given a pre-release copy. the band hope to release it soon.
in 2005 luma hope to glorify God in all that they do
