Biography

True to their name, the members of Lyft share one common goal: to elevate rock music to new heights of innovation and popularity.

Soon after committing themselves to developing a new rock project, producer/engineers Tim Branton and Craig McConnell discovered Culley, a charismatic 21 year-old vocalist and aspiring songwriter, blowing away Southern-Ontario club patrons with his unbridled passion and explosive delivery. Equally comfortable singing with a single acoustic guitar or over dense, modern-rock production, Branton and McConnell knew that Culley was the foundation upon which they would build the complex Lyft sound.

Despite their youth, Branton and McConnell are already industry veterans. Tim Branton was the producer and drummer for college radio darlings Heater, who wowed North American audiences with their insidious hooks and sold over 3,000 independent units before combusting in early 2000. In addition to his freelance production work and Second Engineer position at Joao Carvalho Mastering, Tim is a co-owner, along with Craig McConnell and Chad Richardson, of Toronto's Greenpail Studios and the Inside Music imprint. McConnell had played bass for the Wild Strawberries (Universal), ultimately touring North America as part of Sarah McLachlan's inaugural Lilith Fair. Craig is a recent winner of the USA Songwriting Competition and has produced and remixed an impressive list of major label and independent artists.

The latest addition to the Lyft fold is future guitar legend Joe Parker. A native of Cleveland, Joe was the lead guitarist for Rumor Has It, winners of VH1's Rock Across America contest. The honour earned them an opening slot for John Fogerty, among other accolades, and a very loyal Ohio fan base. After graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Joe joined the touring band of the hit musical "RENT" before meeting Branton and McConnell through a mutual friend and deciding that Lyft was his future.

The members of Lyft are currently in pre-production, writing more songs and preparing for an intense touring schedule. They were recently awarded a FACTOR grant and are working with MuchMusic award-winning director Jef Renfroe (Tea Party, David Usher, Sky, Crash Test Dummies) on a video for “Elusive”. Lyft’s first commercial release, the “Underground” EP, co-produced by Branton, McConnell and Joao Carvalho (Hayden, Pilate), is scheduled for a fall release on Inside Music.

Lyrics

Dice

Written By: Chris Tait

The Catherine Wheel and a big pile of blow
Face it, it was you who wanted to know
Fishnet tights and butcher knives,
Rolling in the arms of another man's wife

And you just sidestep, cold up off the tracks
You don't get bruised and you won't get scratched
You're cool, calm, you don't distress
But when you play the game, you take that test

And you knew

Knew that everything, could be rearranged
And everything was subject to change
We reserve the right, to refuse admittance
To Lady Luck's lounge for less than a pittance

Like a Jack O'Lantern, she's smiling vicious and wide
Her eyes are bright but she's hollow on the inside
And finally I think you understand,
She's an unpinned grenade in the palm of your hand

And you knew

Knew that everything, could be rearranged
And everything was subject to change
We reserve the right, to refuse admittance
To Lady Luck's lounge for less than a pittance

For less than a pittance, man.
And you don't think twice.
You roll me, baby
And I am the dice

I am the dice

Oh now Summer, why did you do it
When you knew it didn't have to be this way?
Oh, Summer, when you knew it didn't have to be this way?

When you knew...

Knew that everything, could be rearranged
And everything was subject to change
We reserve the right, to refuse admittance
To Lady Luck's lounge for less than a pittance

For less than a pittance, man.
And you don't think twice.
You roll me, baby
And I am the dice

Elusive

Written By: Craig McConnell/Tim Branton

Lame party, half a pinner and a bad deal
Something wrong that would never be right
Blown fuse, crate of records and a mic squeal
Say the word and maybe I just might

Lady fingers, painkillers, and a warm beer
Burning need to show you what’s inside
Strike 4am, seven cops, and a deep fear
No release from a feeling you implied

Elusive you were
Elusive you’ll always be
You fell in love with someone else
And now she belongs to me

Reclusive I am
Reclusive I’ll always be
What’s the point in hanging out
When you will never see

Polaroid, wavy hair and the circus
Chance now he’s leaving you behind
Butterflies, young lust and a purpose
Two years for a peace I’ll never find

Burnt rubber, twin turbo, and a sixth gear
Course plotted from your navel to your thighs
Bad aim, bruised knuckle and a cold sneer
Shadow of doubt in your eyes

Elusive you were
Elusive you’ll always be
You fell in love with someone else
And now she belongs to me

Reclusive I am
Reclusive I’ll always be
What’s the point in hanging out
When you will never see

I’d dream of you while resting
But I can never sleep
These pills are for protesting
I can’t let you see
See what you’ve done to me…

Elusive you were
Elusive you’ll always be
You fell in love with someone else
And now she belongs to me

Reclusive I am
Reclusive I’ll always be
What’s the point in hanging out
When you will never see

Impossible we are
And impossible we’ll always be
If I’d had the nerve to tell you
That may have set me free

Futile it is
And futile it has to be
Once upon a time from now
You will belong to me

You Did That On Your Own

Written By: Craig McConnell/Tim Branton/Dale Culley

Baby for the taking
Feeling whole and in control
Never put you on that pedestal
You did that on your own

A small cry of frustration
Doubt’s left you all alone
Scratching at a thin escape
You did that on your own

Holding on to something
Betraying what’s inside
Nothing left to reciprocate
I’m stepping off this ride

Conviction turns to bitterness
So taken by your light
Empty promises for an eager heart
And the pain given in spite

Say what you will
I won’t accept your lies
Like a cast from a broken limb
Losing the will to try

Your mountain’s crumbled to the ground
As a new sun fills the sky
I escaped your avalanche of guilt
I’m leaving you behind

When you see me standing up there
You’re gonna jump and scream
When love’s been thrown aside
You’ll be the one who bleeds
