"Lymie Murray gets back on track"

Talented reggae crooner and songwriter Lymie Murray is promoting three new singles including You Got Me and Just Like This. The third track is called Only You And I Know.

Produced by Jeffery Star (Judasha Production), You Got Me is an upbeat track with a captivating melody. With beautifully written lyrics and a charming style, Lymie Murray not only pays a fine compliment to women, but the compelling rhythm gives the song hit potential.

"You Got Me comes from a desire to admire and celebrate a woman's allure, her sense of beauty and style. I hope I made her believe," explained Murray.

The singer is promoting the singles on local radio, social network sites such as Facebook and his music promotion site, http://www.reverbnation.com/lymie, where the songs are available for download.

Sung with a depth of emotion and soul for which the veteran singer is known, Just Like This is a remake of the popular hit by Douglas Adams and is produced by Callie Bud. Murray wrote and produced Only You And I Know.

"Lymie Murray Rocks Sonoma County"

A rapt audience of dancing and screaming young fans packed the Sebastiani Theatre in California's wine country of Sonoma last Monday for a concert to celebrate the upcoming release of Lymie Murray's fourth album, Deeper Roots.

The inspired Jamaican reggae crooner did not disappoint. With a scintillating two- hour performance, Lymie Murray stamped his class on Sonoma.

Dressed in full white regalia and sporting a blood-red turban over his long dreadlocks and a Rastafarian-coloured scarf, Murray sang tunes from his Deeper Roots album - Rooster, Bad Mind People, Marcus, Captive, Troubles I See and Earth Cry, as well as other familiar singles, Break Free and Love for the People.

Warm vocals

Inviting patrons to dance with him, and delighting with a record-time wardrobe change, the Jamaican singer caressed the crowd with his warm vocals, personal allure and inviting stage presence.

The melodies Lymie Murray pursues in Deeper Roots largely depart from the signature lovers' rock genre for which the reggae singer has become known.

Asked whether Deeper Roots was a change of musical direction, Lymie Murray said: "An artiste's work is a manifestation of who he is. Deeper Roots reflects my evolution as an artiste and my own convictions about people, the issues they confront, the challenges and triumphs, the disappointments, but also the gift of hope. These melodies were always within me. I didn't premeditate this album. It came spilling from my soul."

Producers

Produced by the California-based I-Dwell Records, led by brothers Jack and Hap Mapel, Deeper Roots is the first major project with Lymie Murray. "No one does lover's rock like Lymie Murray and he appeals to people who love music, period," said co-producer, Jack Mapel.

"Mainstream America is afraid of reggae's revolutionary message. It is the youth who are drawn to reggae, they are not offended by the fire burning. They respect the meditation. With Lymie Murray, they get both classical lovers' rock and reggae righteousness and they love him."

The concert featured a stellar California-based band - Herb Daley on bass; Johnny 'Dread' Nevin on keyboards; Rusty Zinn on guitars; and Bruce Benjamin on drums - themselves no stranger to reggae.

"Optimism Driving Lymie Murray Forward"

Adrian Frater, News Editor

After what he considered a very good year in 2009, prolific singer/songwriter/producer Lymie Murray could not have asked for a better start to 2010 than being given the opportunity to perform at the prestigious Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, albeit on the small stage.

"This was indeed a beautiful way to start the New Year, I really don't think it could have been better," said Murray, who threw everything into the performance and had the patrons rocking and grooving to his music in appreciation.

"This is the type of opportunity that most artistes are yearning for, so when I got the opportunity I just jumped at it," added Murray. "In terms of small stage ? as far as I am concerned, there is no small stage whether it is at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival or at any other venue. Once you take the microphone into your hands, it becomes a big stage."

Having created a fairly good impression at the jazz and blues festival, Murray is hoping that those who got a chance to listen to and savour his performance would become new fans, if they were not before.

"I saw this as an opportunity to open up to the world because it was an international audience," noted the singer. "I hope that those who heard me left the venue with Lymie on their mind."

Satisfied that the jazz and blues festival was a good launching pad for 2010, Murray is now looking forward to taking the world by storm as he seeks to build on what he achieved last year, including a super performance at the Sebastiani Theatre in California, which won him rave reviews.

"Last year was a very good year for me ? I spend a lot of time on the road and I was also quite busy in the studio doing a lot of production work," said Murray, who currently writes for and produces several artistes.

"We also dropped several singles during the year," added the singer. "It was a year in which we did a lot of work and we are now looking to start reaping the fruits."

Time to promote

With his catchy new single, Good Morning Jamaica , gaining much traction on the local airwaves, the singer plans to devote a great deal of time promoting that single, as well as other works, as he seeks to generate maximum publicity.

"We will be hitting the road soon ? we will be heading to California to complete the upcoming album Deeper Roots , which is already released as an EP," said Murray. "We are now looking at the official release of the entire project.

"We are also looking at our regular trek across the eastern Caribbean ? Dominica coming up in April," added the singer. "We are also gearing up to claim Reggae Sumfest this year and looking at Western Consciousness. In fact, we will be looking at anything that is juicy and happening."

Satisfied that his career is now on a path of growth, Murray is giving full credit to his management team and the other persons who have been supporting his efforts.

"I must give credit to the tremendous team of people I am now working with," stated the singer. "Without them, I don't think things would be looking as bright for me as they are now." - Jamaica Gleaner

"Claiming California"

"A record company called I Dowell Records heard my tracks and loved Lymie movement and thing. So we got together and made two albums -- one Deeper Roots and the other, The Harvest Moon. And we released the albums and they really doing well," Murray told the Observer.

He is optimistic about his prospects in California and views it as the future reggae capital of the world.

"California being the reggae capital is fast becoming a reality. Yes, no doubt. And the real authentic music that di people come to know and love is what these people still celebrate,"said Murray.

"So we find that we're making more roots music now. Because a lot of people know Lymie for lovers rock, but we continue to bring the roots movement forward. So California is the hunting ground. But I am looking to release Harvest Moon in Jamaica in another month or so, around about Christmas," he said.

Prior to going to California, the artiste released You Got Me, Just Like This and Only You and I Know.

Born Paul Hugh Murray, the artiste is looking forward to taking the world by storm as he seeks to build on what he achieved over the years. Bio

Take one listen to Jamaican singer/songwriter Lymie Murray and you’ll be hooked. Former lead singer of the famous Skool Band and touring partner of reggae great Freddie McGregor, LYMIE MURRAY is considered one of the finest vocalists in modern reggae. Born Paul Murray on October 24, Lymie hails from Royal Flat, Manchester, in central Jamaica, where the singer/songwriter grew up amidst the sounds of Jeffrey Osbourne, the Manhattans, James Ingram, Luther Vandross and local artistes Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond and Tyrone Taylor. Lymie Murray says he grew up watching and listening to an older brother and a cousin doing backing vocals for the iconic Jamaican singer, Beres Hammond. However, it was Lymie’s interest and participation in school concerts that served as his first introduction to the stage. Following high school, he moved to Kingston to work in finance but soon abandoned his 9-5 job to focus on singing and songwriting. Lymie’s amazing talent as a vocalist would later show itself on his debut album, Happy Days’, which was marked by pure artistic range and splendor.

Lymie has a captivating, rich soulful sound, warm and welcoming to the eardrums. The singer’s mesmerizing vocals underlines many reggae hits, including Etana’s “Wrong Address”, Jah Cure’s “Sticky” (Out Deh) and Wasp’s popular track “Cry Fi Dem”. Many Jamaican artistes, including Beres Hammond, Luciano and Tarrus Rily rave about this gem of a singer. Lymie Murray’s strength is his versatility; his exceptional creative range and talent. Rarely has a reggae singer captured so effortlessly both classical lover’s rock sensibility and reggae righteousness. Check out any of his popular singles – “Rolling Thunder”, “All Over the World”, “Blessed” “Only Conversation” and “You Got Me” - and you’ll discover a unique mix of artistic virtuosity, power, style and class unmatched within the contemporary genre of reggae singers.

After years of touring extensively across the globe as the enchanting front man for the once popular Skool Band, Lymie Murray made hismark with his debut album “Happy Days”, featuring hits such as “Everytime I Touch You”, “Blessed” and “Let’s Stay Together”. A four year working relationship with Freddie McGregor’s Big Ship Records, including performances as opening act/backing vocalist for the reggae great, led to Murray’s second and third albums “Start All Over” and “Only Conversation” released on Jet Star and VP Records respectively. “Start All Over” features songs such as the title track ‘Start All Over’, ‘All Night Long’ and ‘If I Could’. Only Conversation comprises the popular title track, ‘Jah Fire’, ‘Love Overdue’ and ‘La La Means (I Love You)’. With signature silky honey glazed vocals, this handsome singer very quickly became known as a crooner of deeply romantic lover’s ballads.

Embarking as a solo artist since 2003, Murray dropped a beautiful collection of popular singles such as ‘Pool of Love’, ‘Slow and Easy’, and ‘Stop for While’ which speak honestly and openly about relationships and love, lyrics with meaning and purpose that could melt the most cynical of lovers. He also released roots reggae hits including ‘Break Free’, ‘Rolling Thunder’, ‘Real High Grade’ and ‘Blood Iya’ for producer Bobby Digital. But Lymie Murray is not to be typecast. Today, his music ranges from reggae’s lover’s rock genre embedded in his first three albums, to classic odes to reggae’s conscious roots manifested in his latest album, “Deeper Roots” and “Harvest Moon”.
Songs such as “Earth Cry”, “Troubles I See”, “Brother’s Keeper” and “Marcus” reflect Lymie Murray’s deep commitment to his Rastafarian faith and his growth as an artiste. Moving his music along a continuum of positive uplifting themes of love and life to profoundly spiritual laments about poverty and injustice, Murray’s melodies are potent and memorable. Unlike many of his young contemporaries in roots reggae culture who spew out a firebrand politics, Lymie Murray is not fuelled my radical resentment and rage. “I have never made a song I am not proud of”, says Murray. But make no mistake Lymie Murray’s music is no less political. The singer’s latest album, aptly entitled “Deeper Roots” carries with it a commanding, authoritative energy. The rhythms on this album are pedestrian and vibrant; the lyrics forceful and consequential. Yet the vocals are unhurried; they are measured; their tone tempered by the lyrical intelligence of this poised and endearing artiste. Tracks such as “Rooster”, “Captive”, ‘Ease it Off” and “Brother’s Keeper” are worth a listen.
