"LYRA EP Review"

“Singer-guitarist Mike McGill is not the Powel-Peralta skater who invented the McTwist and singer-bassist Eva Gardner is not the historic lover of Howard Hughes. Luckily, drummer Alfredo Ortiz is never confused with anyone famous. More like the Halo Benders than the Human League, this Southern California trio’s lyrics weave and overlap over complex rhythms like Bow Wow Wow. There are only 5 cuts on this EP, the newest addition to the impressive and rapidly expanding Music Friends recording studio library, but there is a bonus instrumental at the end of the last track. iPod users may want to split up that track to kill the dead air, but the live parts are all killer.” [One Me None You] - Giant Robot

Bio

Formed in 2004, LYRA is a heavy-hitting, Los Angeles-based trio whose intense, moody, and melodic twists have created a sound that is not only unique, but reflects the experience of it’s members. Having lent her talents to such acts as The Mars Volta, Veruca Salt and Tim Burgess of the Charlatans UK, bassist Eva Gardner delivers rhythm and vocals that form the backbone of Lyra. Guitarist and vocalist Mike McGill, who hails from Snake vs Wizard, Inkwell Chemists and Exfork, delivers a clean and heavy sound that exposes the rock and experimental influences. On drums and percussion, Alfredo Ortiz, who has toured with the Beastie Boys, Money Mark, and Ozomatli, provides a Latin flavor as he meticulously pounds away to complete the trio. Now in their 20s, they take the experience, knowledge and creative inspiration they have gained along the way and are joined together in LYRA to explore this passion on their own terms--to have fun and make music they believe in.
