Lyric James inherited his performing talent from his father,who was already an accomplished theatre
actor and opera singer. Growing up in Oakland,
CA, his father would constantly play records in the
house, permanently infusing Lyric James with a love
for music. Through most of his adolescence, he
enjoyed normal activities, with sports being one of
his main interests at the time. It wasnt until his
mid-teens Lyric James developed a genuine interest
in performing. Although he was heavily influenced by artists such as Marvin Gaye, Boyz II Men, and Anita Baker, he says his father was the most influential.
Im a mixture of old school and the new era. Im very passionate when I sing. I think I set myself apart with the style of my voice, he explains.
Going against the industry standard, Lyric James should be considered a pioneer in that he writes all of his own lyrics, as well as writing for other artists. Lyric James has since performed more than 40 shows, and recently become associated with Broke-
House Records. He will no doubt be an extremely valuable contributor to the company as it continues to grow.
