Bio

Lyric James inherited his
performing talent from his father,
who was already an
accomplished theatre
actor and opera singer.
Growing up in Oakland,
CA, his father would constantly
play records in the
house, permanently infusing
Lyric James with a love
for music. Through most
of his adolescence, he
enjoyed normal activities,
with sports being one of
his main interests at the
time. It wasn’t until his
mid-teens Lyric James
developed a genuine interest
in performing.
Although he was heavily
influenced by artists such
as Marvin Gaye, Boyz II
Men, and Anita Baker, he
says his father was the
most influential.

In his mid teens he
quickly found himself joining
an R&B group called, “4 Life” which
landed him a Major Recording Deal
with MCA records. This allowed him
to further develop his talent and discover
his own unique style .

“I’m a mixture of
old school and the
new era. I’m very
passionate when I
sing. I think I set
myself apart with the
style of my voice,” he
explains. 4 Life enjoyed
a successful
run, but the group
wasn’t what Lyric
James was looking
for, and has since
decided to try his
hand at a solo career.

Throughout his career, he has
written for more than
a few performers
including a few female
singing groups,
proving that Lyric
James is as diverse as he is
talented. After the dissolving of
4 Life, he decided that a solo
career would indeed be the
best way for him to fulfill his
dream. Lyric James has since
performed more than 80
shows, and recently became
associated with Broke-
House Records. He will no
doubt be an extremely valuable
contributor to the company as it
continues to grow.
