Bio

Mark Anthony Cornelius knows “M.A.” stands for more than just his first and middle names.

When Mark Anthony produces a track for an artist that provokes the performer to achieve new creative highs, Mark then knows that “M.A.” stands for “Most Astounding.” When Mark Anthony mixes and masters a recorded track so well that executives and music company decision makers want to immediately rush the track to radio, Mark then knows that “M.A.” stands for “Mass Appeal.” When Mark Anthony raps and commands undivided attention, Mark then knows that “M.A.” stands for “Main Attraction.”

Mark Anthony Cornelius is M.A., the newest multi-talented rapper/producer/engineer to emerge from the Northern United States. A resident in Muskegon, MI – a city on the shores of Lake Michigan that is considered an untapped goldmine for hip-hop talent – M.A. has been a mainstay in the region for many years. Now a member of Deserted Island Music, he plans to breakout into the national music mainstream.

“Working with Hustlaz, Inc. is definitely a great learning experience, and together we are gonna get this money!” says M.A.

M.A. starts learning music at an early age. Rhythm and tunes are noises heard frequently around his childhood home. He starts to sing and play drums around the house, which leads to an eight-year tenure with his church choir. This sparks his creativeness, leading to a desire to produce. M.A. begins to visit local recording studios and companies in hopes of contributing his sounds to their establishments.

“I started around Muskegon dropping those new, fresh, original, hot beats,” says M.A. “Everybody wanted my beats. And that’s how I knew I was destined to be in this business.”

After taking bad steps with a local recording organization, M.A. gets his balance with a group called Pharmacy Commission – one of the Lakeshore regions most successful underground hip-hop acts.

“[Pharmacy Commission] needed beats, which was cool because I needed a new camp,” says M.A. “So we clicked instantly.”

The group achieves some success, winning several talent showcases and doing opening dates with such performers as Lil Flip, Do Or Die and The Lox, but they never receive a major label push. M.A. then moves to Atlanta, Georgia, a current hot spot in the recording industry. He stays there for a couple of years, testing his skill against the so-called elite. He proves to be more than up to par. M.A. later returns to Muskegon, setting in motion his current status.

“I returned to Muskegon and hooked up with Idris Golden and Creighton Goins, the CEO’s of Hustlaz Inc., to release my first solo album, ‘M.A. - Crunch Time,’” M.A. says.
