Bio

The first time bandolinist Diogo Guanabara played with the musicians of Macaxeira Jazz was in October, 2006 at Som da Mata (a project that takes place every sunday at Parque das Dunas, Natal-RN). That concert gave inspiration to a partnership, and its result is the perfect fusion of brazilian music and foreign classical rhythms.

Diogo Guanabara was Born October 10, 1986. He started studying music by the age of 9. At the beginning, he played cavaquinho, but he would quickly enjoy playing bandolim too. He had as masters Alexandre Moreira for bandolim and Prêntice Bulhões for cavaquinho. Although Guanabara is a young musician, he has worked with many national renowned artists such as Oswaldo Montenegro, Benito de Paula and Roberta Sá.

The instrumental group Macaxeira Jazz was created in Natal, in 2004. At the time, they were four students at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. At the beginning, their repertory was based on Jazz and Bossa Nova, but it soon became varied, adding brazilian rhythms as Frevo, Samba and Baião with Blues, Funk, Salsa and Bolero, creating varied setlists, with their own compositions and arrangements.

Macaxeira Jazz features Ticiano D'Amore on the guitar, Henrique Pachêco on the bass, Marco da Costa on the piano and Raphael Bender on the drums. They all have attended to classes of great musicians in Natal, as Joca Costa, Manoca Barreto and Júnior Primata.

In 2008, Diogo Guanabara e Macaxeira Jazz released on DVD a live concert, that made the quartet internationally known. During September and October, they made a tour around Japan, with concerts in Tokyo, Hamamatsu and Yokohama. On their way back to Brazil, the group stayed few days in Holland, where they had the opportunity to play in bars and pubs of Amsterdam.

Their musical fusion has also pleased the most demanding audiences in many brazilian cities. The group has made many concerts in Natal, besides the participation in Mel, Chorinho e Cachaça Festival, in Ceará, and Festival Gastronômico of Martins and Mossoró.
